With his ego?  Never; his name on everything would be the last thing to go, vowels and all.

...

This is a tough one; the Spartans are a philosophical mess if you credit them any ideology beyond loving guns, conquest and military stuff - but they clearly think that libertarian ideas and military discipline are compatible.  A cynic would conclude all their talk about liberty and individualism is empty.  They just like guns.

Note that the military basenames make the most comfortable fit.

In fact, notwithstanding their well-established distain for Wealth as an SE/goal, a libertarian streak, to the extent it was real, would ultimately leave them a lot in common with the Morganites in aspirations, if not approach...

I always thought that the Spartans ideology was akin to Militarism in general, with a disciplined, regimented society and free running militia's, individual rights to bear arms and property, etc. The Spartans do seem to value liberty, but they are more about military dominance and such, rather then simple gun hoarders. They don't seem too democratic to me either, but they seem to value individual rights to some extents.

When I think of them I draw comparisons between three groups in human history: The multitudes of Serbian militia's and paramilitaries, American constitutionalists and Armed fronts in general, especially of those in Columbia.

As for names:

Here is one for our dear Free Drones.

They're revolutionaries without a revolution to fight?  Interesting.

They're revolutionaries without a revolution to fight?  Interesting.

The Free Drones are still in a fight, its just they are the nation state representing that front. In the books the Free Drones were a faction that originally revolted against the Human Hive, mainly miners in Yang's vast mining complexes. Not only that the Free Drones are as stated the nation state of well, The Free Drones. They continue to wage war on tyrants and oppressors to free their brethren and fellow drones in other factions, and wish to spread their utopia. Much as the other factions wage war on others due to ideological differences.

It was sort of how originally the Soviet Union was the foreman for international Socialist revolution, and then later in Latin America (and many other parts of the world) and even still today how Cuba has pioneered and supported Socialist movements and causes, still offering developmental aid to many nations around the world. (EX. Belize, Angola, Columbia, etc.)

I was talking about the Spartans.  I like your remarks about the Drones, though, and their eternal revolution.

I've always thought of the Free Drones as more moderate/reformist socialists, like the British Labour Party or other social democratic parties of western Europe.

Indeed, though they are still Socialists and many names are a homage to many important Socialist events, things, group or people, as well as ideas.

I agree with you on that aspect: Its why I created my Crimson Comrades as I felt a distinct lack of real, true hard Socialism, daresay Communist, revolutionary elements.

Yeah, some Soviet socialists could bring extra ideological variety to the game. Yang is more of a general dictator-type, with hints of Maoism and a mish-mash of Eastern philosophies.

Some day we might be able to play a game with only varieties of socialists in it! It could be a bit of a cynical statement on the constant fragmentation of the left.   :D

Oh dear, Socialist civil war!  ;lol

I find Yang less so Socialist, just more Authoritarian. He's not exactly benevolent for his people, I'd just consider him a despot. Less so then Socialist. The only reason I don't label him a fascist is because he doesn't target specific groups+ a distinct lack of ultra nationalist tendencies. I do see the Mao similarities though; and on that note, I find Mao was a great military leader, but terrible economic one. (it really came down to ignorance of climate and ecology, and generally stupid decisions in terms of agricultural policy why this was) Yang is a bit different I found. Yang's much more organized and intelligent, but he's also much more ruthless then Mao, but some may consider that a good attribute of Yang depending on Stance.

Now note: The Crimson Comrades do draw some influence from the Soviets, but the influence they do draw is from the original Bolshevik revolutionary party during the Civil War and revolution itself. They are certainly not Stalinists, and its even sketchy to call them Leninists either. They follow Leninism a little bit with how they run themselves but there isn't mass plethora's of media and glorification/personality cults around the leadership other then what would naturally form, and what is expected of any Centauri leader irregardless of faction. They are more attuned to the original idea of Communism combined with Communalism/Communitarianism combined with said Bolshevik influence.

As for the leader himself, Vazheli, he's roughly based off of my own personality. Its safe to say he is a bit of my ego implanted as a character. (obviously background and name is changed, but physically it's not far off from me and the militant attitude was what I once was like, and still am in a few aspects.)
On that accord, in terms of leadership styles he has similarities to Fidel Castro storywise and characterwise in a small essence. Both were men who were pushed to Communism by the stress of their situations, both had to have courage (and daresay balls) to do controversial things in the interest of their nations/groups against staggering odds and both are generally cautious or pragmatic leaders. They are both also stubborn and at times can have a temper.

EDIT: Just to veer the subject a bit back on course, here's some names for Believer settlements:
Sanctify
Apostle's Preaching
Message of God
Lamb of Canaan
March of Moses
Gabriel's Gaze

Say, what faction(s) has had the least new names submitted?  I vaguely recall not having quite finished this project, but I've lost track of who still needed more.  Guv?  ete?

Someone needs to update the sync.in pad with all those posted in this thread before we can easily tell. I'll probably do that later this evening.
