Good thinking. I'll look into it asap. Other stuff just "came up".

Ah- the "telephone" random event.

Close. Very close.

But it was actually the "trudge to the fridge to re-beer myself". Doesn't usually have a negative downside unless my forward planning is totally shot.

(Remind me how to load the palette pcx in GIMP. I've dropped a copy into [PATH]/palettes but don't seem able to access it.)
This is what the relogoed Branson3.pcx looks like though:--

Niice.

You want Image>Mode>Indexed...>Use custom palette>uncheck Remove unused colors from palette>the color square between them>select the SMAC(X) palette.

Booze up and mod - I like it.

Hmmm
Quote
Image>Mode>Indexed..

That's straightforward and already set. The rest - not so much.. I had looked up palettes - tried importing directly from Firaxis' pcx (lazy and not possible) But you CAN import from an open .pcx file, it seems - so I made this SMACX entry from 'palette.pcx'

Not sure how to use it yet, but it'll dawn on me in the end.

Let me poke around a bit - I have instructions somewhere about installing a SMAC(X) palette, if that's what you want to know.  I only had to do it once, so it's hard to recall...

Sure no prob.

I hedged anyway when knocking that up, by dropping from the background and bucket filling cut outs, unless I could undo something.
In-game - while they're not Holbein or DaVinci the monument stuff might suffice at a pinch - at least it's recognizable.

Haven't had the pleasure of rubbing Dickieboy out yet to see how the other stuff performs but the PS clip was from one of their 15fps movies and looks strikingly like images on their <insertfaction>3.pcx files.

OT - Because Mr.B arrives with so little, no tech, no xs energy, I toyed with the idea of giving him a mindworm. Certainly it helps because he suffers mobility issues like all PLANET=<0 contestants. But I can't think of a good reson for him to posess such advanced technology.
Off now to play him again w/o worm.

Finally.  Found it.  You can import the palette from any SMAC(X) .pcx in place of blank.pcx.pcx.

"Windows>Dockable Dialogues>Palettes. Right-click on any palette in the menu>Import Palette. Check Image, the second option, below Gradient, and blankpcx.pcx(and a number) and import. "

If the file you're working with is is already set to Indexed, set it to RGB and back, following the previous instructions.  You really need a blank copy of *3.pcx to paste your work into, 'cause if you touch the purple background -erase and re-fill, or whatever-  it turns non-transparent.

Am I answering what you're asking?

Yup pretty much. That's how I got that dockable palette sidebar. The import didn't quite work the way you describe, so I sneaked round it.
When I'm back on the job in the morning I'll reset the indexing as you suggest, that should smarten up the gold Virgin logos.

The template I basically worked from was an ancient NNode version blank - the one withe the dark swirly smudge where the logo goes, but because I didn't fancy that with a yellow logo going in, I cut the panel out and tried making my own for practice, didn't like the straight edge near the middle, couldn't figure how to turn it into something neutral - so I chopped in a second 'victim' for a bit of company.

I was pretty careful with the panel cutting and only used the purple as a reference colour to fill voids with a copy of their purple. Seems to work OK. My eyes have reached the astigmatic limit for today though - playing a couple of quizzes finished them off good.

(and no it's not the beer...)  ;D

Hmmm.  My experience of the last year is that GIMP can't handle the transparency purple unless it's not been touched.  I still use Photoshop as my last step on a faction graphic, to load the palette before I make my final save - as it can.

Well I've had a bash at the logos! I'm pretty time poor right now so I won't be able to attack those sea cities yet, but I'll wait to see what you guys think of this logo attempt. If you like it, then I can attempt to add scanlines and do the colour remapping of the little logos to blue. I'll be the first to admit that my branson3 is very rough and is LE style as well (I have opaque logos on the monument in LE) but hey it's something to look at.

And when the hourglass has run out, the hourglass of temporality, when the noise of secular life has grown silent and its restless or ineffectual activism has come to an end, when everything around you is still, as it is in eternity, then eternity asks you and every individual in these millions and millions about only one thing: whether you have lived in despair or not.
~Soren Kierkegaard 'The Sickness Unto Death', Datalinks
