The inevitable happened.  I now know somebody on a ventilator. She was a neighbor and best friend to my wife's godmother. I'd see her at confirmations, retirements, my wedding. Last saw her about two years ago. This year I haven't seen many people. Her husband has it too, but is quarantined at home.

On the bright side, she is now off of the ventilator, out of Intensive Care, and back to a regular hospital bed. She is expected to survive.
Hope that she won't have to deal with the long term crap that has been associated with this...

Got the results from a blood test today.
I appear to have no Covid antibodies in my blood (and no rheuma, but that's another story  :P  ).
I assume that means I haven't been infected with Covid19 in the last month or so, meaning I came through the second infection wave unscathed.

What's that I read? The president-elect wants to roll out a 100-day vaccination plan?
Any takers here?

Honestly, it's mostly posturing.  Health care workers (which means hEt) will start getting it this month.  His 'plan' is what's just going to happen naturally.  Maybe some assistance with distribution, but it literally was already the planned rollout.

It's Biden attempting to take credit and make it look like he's doing something to shut some of the [Sleezebag] idiots up.

Its not like [Sleezebag] didn't take credit for the result of measures taken under the Obama legislation (mostly employment rates IIRC).

Sure. I trust Dr. Fauci. He said he'd get the vaccine for himself and his family at the first opportunity. Besides that, as an ex- hog farmer I believe in vaccines in general. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

But I don't think my turn will come up much before the end of the 100 days. That would be what? The last day of May?  Medical workers, residents in nursing homes and assisted living will take priority. Hopefully, so will workers and inmates in jails and prisons.  They are prevented from social distancing against their will, and I think Covid is "Cruel and unusual punishment."

If I do get a chance due to age or lung issues, I won't turn it down. I hear privately that we should have enough people vaccinated in my state to get back to near normal by the first day of summer. But maybe we have an advantage in that our infection rate is the 5th highest is the country.

I had figured, that with my HIV/AIDs status as well as being 59, that I would be in one of the earlier teirs of people to get the Vaccine.   And I'm not expecting to see it before April/May.

Getting Vaccine into arms is showing to be more of a Logistical Problem than first anticipated (like this is a surprise).  They are about one order of Magnitude behind (in the US) getting the people stuck than where they wanted to be at by the end if the year.  Were as, delivery to distribution locations has had no real problems.  So, there might be longer term storage issues due to the inequality of deliveries compared to Arm Sticks becomes more and more evident...

Also, The growth of False/Fraudulent C-19 Vaccine availability claims are on the rise, be wary...

Yeah, there've been warnings about fraudulent vaccines here as well, right after 'negative Covid test certificates'.
The first symbolic vaccinations have happened yesterday, the real roll-out starts next Monday, after the holiday weekend.
First stage is (voluntary) vaccination of residents and employees of retirement homes, scheduled to happen up until the end of February 2021. After that, medical personnel and other (non-medical) hospital employees.
In the second phase all 65+, people above 45 with health problems, and essential personnel (police, fire-guards,...) will have the opportunity to be vaccinated.
By then, we're supposed to be at the onset of Summer, and roughly a quarter (about 3 million people) of the population should have had the opportunity to get a vaccin.
The remainder of the population will have a shot (pun intended ;) ) at local vaccination centers, one's doctor's office, or conceivably at your job's medical post.
It the schedule works out, and vaccin production&distribution has no snafu's (there's four plants who produce the vaccines or necessary components in Belgium, but they produce for the rest of the world as well), my turn should come sometime next Summer. Chances are the company I work for will be able to get a priority and get its work force vaccinated a bit ahead of the general working population since its active in a semi-critical sector (food distribution).

Which reminds me, today's briefing didn't include a report on the number of confirmed Covid cases at my workplace. Last week there were seven. That's out of roughly 5-6 hundred employees at the warehouse.
Experts are reasonably sure the peak of the second wave is behind us now. We're below 2000 confirmed cases/day, and hospitalisations and death rates are declining as well.

You know, if they are having problems with getting the first stick into people's arms, what is going to happen when it's time for them to get the second at the same time others are getting their first??

There's been talk about delaying the second shot of already vaccinated people to have as much people vaccinated as quickly as possible, but since my country signed in through EU contracts with the pharma companies, the (legal) decision rests at that level (at least, according to the federal minister for Social Affairs and Healthcare).

Yeah, but you can't delay the 2nd shot or you might as well not get the first one to begin with

I wonder if there is Trial Data (likely very slim) on the effect of efficacy of the Vaccine, with different time frames between the two shots.  How long can you delay the 2nd one before the first is needed to be done again?
