Epic New Picture Of The Milky Way As You’ve Never Seen It Before

Pictures of space never fail to amaze us and the latest shot of the Milky Way has once again left us full of wonder.

The incredible image, that has been released to mark the completion of the APEX Telescope Large Area Survey of the Galaxy, shows the full area of the Galactic Plane from the southern hemisphere.

Lit up in dazzling reds, purples and blues, the vast area is like a sea of colour in the darkness of outer space.

The telescope that captured the image, based in Chile, mapped an area four times the size of any previous surveys.

Experts are excited as it also shows the cold gas of the galaxy, helping develop new insights into star formations.

Leonardo Testi, from the European Southern Observatory, said in a statement: ”The new release of the full survey opens up the possibility to mine this marvellous dataset for new discoveries.”
