SMACX on El Capitan?
« on: October 07, 2015, 09:49:52 AM »
Since the upgrade on OS X 10.11, I can't play SMACX anymore. I have the GOG version, to port the game on Mac OS.
It seems to be caused by the new "rootless" feature of OS X, but I can't find a way to disable it, or to pass through.

Any help?

Go to Finder>Applications>"show package contents" in Alpha Centauri Alien Crossfire>Open "wineskin">choose "advanced">Click "tools">Choose "Update Wrapper"

This will update wineskin to 2.6.1.
Now it will work.

I updated my wrapper, but it seems to have been updated to 2.6.0, not 2.6.1. And the game is still showing me the same error message.
I'm digging into the website you linked.

I'm approaching… I managed to get wineskin to update to 2.6.1. When I launch the game, I have the black screen, and I no longer see any error. But the screen stay black instead of make me choose between Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire…

Any idea @BodhisattvaC ?

I don't know anything about Macs, but a black screen could be a sign that the game is trying to run at an unsupported screen resolution. Do you have a file named Alpha Centauri.ini in your main game folder? If so, add the line

DirectDraw=0

to the [Alpha Centauri] section of the file (or change DirectDraw=1 to DirectDraw=0).

I've resinstalled the game, update the wrapper and it works!
I don't know if the problem was that files were modified (alpha.txt, Alpha Centauri.ini, patches, and so on), or it's the GOG version I just downloaded is newest…

Anyway :  :danc:
