Has anybody quoted Ambrose Bierce's definition of corporation yet in this thread?  The bit about pursuing individual profit without individual responsibility?
Please do.

Yitzi, I think you'll agree that Morgan would see his system as the most direct possible of meritocracies, yes?

Very much so.

Their rottweilers were
named....

Hitler  and Uzi .

Now, that's ironic.  (The Uzi gun is named after its designer, a Jew who was born in Germany and had to leave due to the Nazis.)

Do you agree with Morgan about that?  The position is not without merit.

Partially.  A free market system is the easiest way to get a decently working meritocracy, but it is capable of more mistakes than some other meritocratic systems, and so it's necessary to keep those mistakes under control/ensure that they don't do too much damage.

Hmmm.  For instance, here I'm a Bank interest Gadzillionire -I've worked really hard to earn it, but the fact remains that I have No Name has not, and is close behind.  (-And I'd be 1,000 times richer if I hadn't reduced the top five in the Bank by a factor of ten three time over the years to keep it less ridiculous.  I just threw away three billion EC and don't care, I'm so rich.)  And you'll never be able to touch ariete, whose lone merit over you is depositing 50ec two years sooner under more favorable interest rates than your several thousand got later.  That's a non-trivial flaw as a meritocracy.

From time to time, I will bump an old dead thread for being so awesome.

(I park in Who's Online, y'know, and sometimes I click on what a lurker is looking at out of curiosity and such, is mostly how that ends up happening.)

Just re-read. I don't have anything to add yet.

You probably will.

Dunno why you're not in Politics 2021 - the roundtable I'm failing to start on defining fascism needs you and your history learnin'.

As it happens, my politics shifted (multiple times, in a chaotic fashion) over the past five years, and now I'm more libertarian than anything else.  Continue to be broadly ignorant about economics stuff, though; I don't think corporations are awesome, I just increasingly feel that a lot of the horrible crap they do is done with government assistance.

I'm sincerely torn between Libertarian and Socialist leanings...

Our scientists now use fractal theory to 'teach' the molecules to assume, or resume, a particular form. Substances of amazing strength become simple once the formulae are properly computed.
