It did come off the base just fine, and without any great struggle.

One made to work as a mask, with top and bottom open, will be demasking ease itself...

The Crone isn't in any hurry, so I just put it on the shelf and add a layer when it's ready.  The Martian got a teeny repair of a very minor coating blemish before it turned into a problem.  The Mars Face will probably be ready by Monday - I did more stitches today, and when they're under about six more coats, they'll be covered/smoothed and I'll take my chances..  The horns dry fast, and will probably be ready before Dixie.  She's coming along, but I'll probably email Buster Monday that she needs longer.  (My current Facebook posting is on serious Devil, and I'll be to the horns Monday, which means I'd like to have horns action pics by Wednesday.  Fortunately, appliances are less coating-needy than whole faces...)

Letting the interior dry a little more to be sure before trimming and lining - and punching the little holes for stringing.



Time for another round of dabbing - they were all ready four hours ago when I finished mache-ing mid-afternoon, but we had company which tied me up until time to grill supper, which tied me up another hour.

The Crone seems ready, and I'm taking her out of rotation.

The Mars Face is getting to the point of I've done all I can, so in a coat or two -one assumes today- I'll be down to the horns and Dixie - and the horns are getting close, too.

Say, I've never thought to show you guys this.  It's what became of that baby head I was working on and never got the casts right.

   

   

They enlarge, of course.  Actual size fills the palm of my hand.

A fair likeness, when Buster was that age, and some nice detail work on the hair and eyebrows.  I see now that those irises protrude too much - I'll have to work on that if I ever try to do anything else with this.

-And for added value, here it is with the antique-looking thin patina old, dry, sculpey gets, especially after making a latex cast.  The cracks and everything vanished with a little vaseline polish.

Great!  Like I said, not a terrible likeness.

Here without the shininess, but less patina, too.

-The more I look at it, the more I wanna shave those eyeballs...

They showed up this afternoon -the Fink came by yesterday, and cost me a whole coating cycle- but HA!  I had latexed all three things 20 minutes before.

Dixie came both times, so I got to study her head - and the muzzle I made is too square, a little.  Can't be helped, I guess.

I think I've figured out how to mount the cloth ears and still allow Buster to paint the mask...

I like.  Reminds me of something out of a 50s budget scifi.

The creepy way to go, along those lines?  Not the typical/expectable featureless dome eyes, or facets - but human eyeballs to scale of the sockets I made.  Not bulging.  Like a guy wearing the thickest eye-magnifying lenses ever, w/o the glasses.  Maybe human-ish skin tones to look as much like a severe burn survivor as a stereotypical space dude, confusing the issue for the viewer.  (The shape of the top in this version, w/ impossibly low brow, feeds into a subtle wrongness of the look, too, though good luck fitting it over a human actor.)  Evoke an uncanny valley/valley-adjacent effect.  THAT would make a creepy-butt alien...

Hard to do then, easy now.
