[EGM] Chiron new map - worlds creators!
« on: April 17, 2015, 05:49:03 PM »
And over here discussing the new Chiron map.
Part of the EGM effort.

The original Chiron map has:
3 continents, major ones.
1 large island - Isle of Deianira
1 smaller island - Isle of Dexamenus
moderate number of islands
coastlines are very much developed, especially those 2 largest continents.

Googling, I found it in someone's imageshack:

New map o Chiron, what general map features like mentioned above do we design?
how many continents?
how many major islands?
etc...

Blueprints of continents shapes are welcomed too.

IIRC from an old tile count, the current 'official' map (standard size) has about 50% land tiles.
Also IIRC, the designers back then deliberately created long and narrow peninsula's/continent connections to mask the AI flaw of sending out an assault force dripwise (they tended to cluster in the narrow passages).

I think my only wish would be a that all natural landmarks are present.

I was thinking about placing even more, like those proposed by Googlie in CGN SMACX Academy:
- Fungal Barrier
- Marshes
- Range of several volcanoes
- etc.

We can think of more new ones.
And we can develop the map further in later releases making it more fun and better.

This is maybe something many people thought about, not necessarily in this arrangement:
Just to give something to reflect on.

The new map could be something, that would not be based on Earth map.

My first thought is 2 large continents with developed coastal line, that is that you can move around each of them without Doc. Flexibility/foils.
Arrangement, roughly north-south, but what would be even more interesting something different, maybe more developed shapes, but not east-west (both of them).
One of my existing favourite maps is "robsworld" - maybe someone remembers that map, but new map would not be a clone of that.

Going further with Earth map analogies in fantastic worlds.
Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (game which I played and mostly gamemastered years ago)
They do not hide the similarity there, which is very interesting

At atrociously high energy states, the properties of matter change subtly and new miracles become possible. The Plasma Accretion process is now dangerous and difficult to control, but its products will soon become commonplace in our society.
