1)Fireworks are a form of colored lights.
2) For the Aussies Christmas is the major summer holiday.
3) It's a holiday about a strange star leading people around.

Fireworks seem somehow appropriate.

It's more the noise for me.  Christmas has always been a "quiet" holiday.  Fireworks = noisemakers.

Carols + Fireworks just sounds wierd.

Fun, But Wierd.

Keep in mind that's not neccessarily a bad thing.

Christmas is 'merely' one of the annual family gatherings to me. Its probably the only time a year I see all my siblings, their partners if applicable, and children, in the same place.

So there's only 5 more minutes of 2014 left (for me anyways).

We've been having a pretty good family holiday so far.  Left home on the 26th and came up to the Saphire Coast (halfway between Melbourne and Sydney).  Going to be here for a week, then head home.  Back to work on the 6th.  I'll have to upload some photos when I get back.

Happy New Year all!

Happy new year.  Always did appreciate the Aussie schedule.  Ah, good ole days of the 3 AM (for me) turnchats in Civ 3...I scheduled them too, can still hear the moaning of most the North Americans.

So, six more hours before next year peeks over the horizon.

One of my hiking boots got finished on todays hike. Kinda poetic. I bought this pair in New Zealand and broke them in on one of the most beautiful hiking trails on the world: the Milford Track on South Island. And now, nine years or so later, they're finished on another trail counted among the most beautiful in the world: the Kalalau trail on Kauai.
They literally were used around the globe too. Starting their use on what for all intends and purposes is the most eastern fully fledged country in the world, and retiring (to a bin tomorrow  ;) ) on the most western state if the USA.

Happy New Year everyone.

That is rather poetic. Milford Sound is the place I'd most like to see that I've never been to.
Perhaps you can embellish with pictures when you return home. South Island, Kauai, & boots.

What do you do when that happens on the trail?   Do you carry duct tape in your backpack?

It sure is worth it to make a cruise on the Milford Sound. And you can choose to fly in or drive in (I've used both options, next to walking in through the track :D )

What do you do when that happens on the trail?   Do you carry duct tape in your backpack?

Its not like the boot was completely total. The stuff that keeps the sole of the boot connected to the body (and watertight) was already cracked for some time, but the mud and rocks together of this track made the connection peel away at a fast rate.
I've had the same two+ years ago on Fiji with my old pair of Teva sandals. One of the soles completely detached on a (muddy) jungle trail. After the hike, I simply cut the other sandals' of, and use this pair as reef sandals now. Unfortunately, one of my current pair of a sandals is about broke down on the straps. Will have to shop around in Hilo the next few days if they sell hike sandals there.

Oh yes, on the track today I met a woman asking if I had a pocket knife with me. The sole of one of her shoes had come half loose.

It was less than 2km away (just over a mile).

Is your current neighbourhood more or less surrounded by bush?
