Ok,

I finished up a protective coating on the completed side last night.  I'm now pretty confident it's safe to move, finally.  Setting up to work on the top and/or the chiller this weekend.

Had a major setback on the top, however.  Attempted to lifecast some feet for it, which went horribly wrong since my son doesn't understand the concept of sitting still.  I don't have more stuff and it's too expensive to go get more, which leaves me with the prospect of sculpting hands and feet, something I was attempting to avoid.  But, those are the only pieces holding up the top from being completed.  (because I can't do the arms/legs till the hands/feet are done...actually the arms are going to be quite tricky all together, probably have to do them at the same time as the monster mud)

I'm also out of wire for more Pleurant.  Going to be a nice weekend, though, will start pulling the patio furniture out of the shed, I may have more in there, but the shed lost it's door in our windstorm and is full of leaves, so that's going to be a project in itself.

Not looking promising for being finished end of April.

No pics?

It sounds like money is a little tight right now.

Are you planning to have some drapery on the figure on top?  Seems to me like that would be appropriate, and you could hide a multitude of sins that way, too.

Pics of what, failed lifecasting?  It's too messy and time critical to grab a camera.  Otherwise, just a clearcoat on the finished side, nothing to shout about really.

As for money, lifecasting supplies are pricey.  It wasn't in the cards to go buy more to begin with.  The chicken wire is more a matter of if I'm gonna buy it I'm gonna buy a TON, as I need it for the ruined tombs later anyway.  This pay period was set to the fog chiller.  I probably should have waited till I finished the other stuff, but I don't tend to work that way.

I guess bad choice of words.  It's not "done, done".  Same as last pic, but with a clear coat over everything so I'm sure the pleurant and blocks will not fall off and are safe from minor bumps that might happen in the garage.  Already had to patch one of them as the kids knocked a hole in by bumping one pleurant with a football.  It's ready to stand up straight so I can get some better support inside and work on the chiller.

Okay, I think I understand what you have in mind for the sides - same for the ends?  And is the top going to be a skeleton on a tabletop or what?

Chiller is basically done.

Normally the side with the duct fulled everywhere will be filled with ice, but with my small fogger there, it's not going to matter.

Video is kinda stuck in upload at the moment....

Caveat: that's my smallest fog machine, I'm planning to buy one several magnitudes larger.

Looks great.  How do you cover the sound?

With the lid.  ;)

The camera mic was pretty close to the fog machine.

Larger machines tend to be quieter as well.

One thing I should note.  If you're ever going to work with foam, forget all the tutorials, how to's, professional places, etc that say you should use a hot wire.

Get one of those electric carving knives seen near the fog machine.

It was an off hand comment on syfy's new (and AWFUL) show Monster Man that caught my attention.  He was making a foam monster and said he was breaking out his new electric knife.  I figured one of the fancy hotknives.  A brief half second shot of them cutting the form up, though, and I recognized his electric knife as an electric carving knife.  THEY WORK FANTASTIC on foam.  10x faster than a hot knife, and CLEAN cuts unlike other power tools.

I've seen in the promos there's another something he's using to sculpt foam with, but his hand is mostly covering it, so waiting for that episode.  This week's was just useless stupid.

I'm guessing heated wire warps the foam?

Not at all, heated wire cuts it extremely well.  That's what I had been using prior to yesterday.  It just takes time, it's a slow and steady cutting process.  This knife cuts like a knife, is a much more 'natural' feel to it, and has just as clean an edge as the hot wire cuts do.  (where, normal saws mutilate the foam.)

What you think?

Forget the silly looking spider, just the MECHANISM.  I can put whatever I want on the end of it.

I think your possibilities would be profound with that gadget - I just couldn't begin to place a numerical value on it.

As we approached we were confronted by the ruined splendor of Sparta Command. The true immensity of the place became instantly apparent as our Quantum Tank crunched over the rubble and parked next to a shattered bunker, but the extent of the destruction took weeks to assess. The shielded datacore had sustained several massive breaches and smoke still billowed from the numerous cannon ports. There were few signs of human life.
