Hello - not a bot ^^!

I was looking at some old good games and found GOG AC2.. didn't play it for years.. so watched some youtube gameplays, saw someone mentioning improved AI mod and i eventually ended up here. Shame youtube does not have ac2 content, but guides and discussions here are quite good.

As for me, I assume I'm human. No one's ever told me otherwise.

I have played the game for a long time. A really long time.

Hello! I was searching for SMACX mods and ended up here. I wonder if anyone still plays MP.

G'day; hope I'm doing this right.

I haven't been on forums since the old days of Apolyton and CivFanatics.

SMAC/X is still my favourite game and one that I immerse myself in (reading all quotes, system messages, taking it slow) from time to time. I found you through watching a YouTube vid.

I live in Christchurch, Aotearoa, New Zealand and work in healthcare. ;zak;

Hey everyone - I'm a big civ guy, started with V and BE, but gave SMAC a try over the summer, and it's the best decision I ever made. I found the forum when I was looking for tutorials. I finally decided to patch the game, and it is a world of difference. Still playing on the lower difficulties, but looking to get better.

Hello, all. Been playing SMAC since I was in the single digits. Glad to find a functioning community! Came here to figure out how on earth to edit a .pcx file without breaking the background. Making progress!

Hello! First got excited for SMAC when I played the demo back off a PC Gamer CD before it came out. I've kept up with it through the years... bought the game, then the expansion, then the Linux version (RIP Loki), and eventually the GOG version when it became available. I had a little time off work so I worked on getting SMAC installed on my Chromebook, which is easy but not particularly simple in case you were wondering. Games that aren't being supported by their developers often have unofficial patches and community must-have mods, so I thought I'd poke around for some, and here we are. Playing the game motivated me to try to read all the real-world books quoted in the game, which I think I'm still not quite done with even decades later.

Hello! Played SMAC a little back in 2000/2001

This last year I've been researching the history of the Civilization series and this seems the only really active SMAC site. Great to see so many people active with such an old game!

Hello!
A friend of mine recently sucked me back into Civ V multiplayer... which reintroduced that terrible/beautiful itch that can only be thoroughly scratched by some quality time with SMACX. I grew up in the 90's, so, ever since I can remember playing video games, SMACX has been at the top of my chart.
Reddit brought me here to check out bvanevery's SMACX AI Growth mod. I'm super pleased to find out that people are still playing and modding this game to this day!

Hallo am Mhaelixai, am and old friend of SMAC who found SMACX on GOG and was amazed a year ago, since then have wanted to make AI a little smarter and got this crazy idea on my own to go into the txt files annd changed stuff....then did a google search on what not to touch when changing things and was excited to find that im not the only one in a decade+ that has had the idea  ;lol looked at a couple search results and found AC2 which seems the best resource.

I live in Greenbrae, CA and play at work(lazy security guard) + when i have some freetime when my kiddos are down for naps.
Have become very interested in creating my own factions and polishing some details of the changes that i have made. Ideally I want an AI factions that can be difficult for me to play against on Thinker difficulty setting because transcend is too time consuming for my brain to keep interest on.

Hi, I'm an avid Civ player (started with 3, went on to 4 and 1; couldn't bring myself to play 5 because of all questionable changes it brought).

I've known about SMAC for a while but what really hooked up me is reading about its lore and mechanics in 4chan threads on /tg or /vr (like pic related). I wanted to learn more, started browsing various forums and wikis (the one that you host is my favourite; I think I found out about it on CivFanatics or just stumbled upon while googling). Only recently I got down to actually playing it.

Right now I'm in the middle of my first party (University on Librarian with default rules on a random map), exploring new
wonderful options like sinking an enemy coastal base or collecting interest on credits lol.

I know that AI underutilizes some important features but so far it's seems to be very decent. Seeing how by the time of the first council meeting Spartans had eliminated Gaians and were in the process of rolling over the Hive despite its powerhouse traits is quite neat. My own pact brother Morgan sending a gazillion probes to steal techs from me before I finished the HSA (I'm in deep -4 probe from my faction malus and knowledge civic) was the icing on the cake, although his initial expansion is admittedly luckluster.

It's really a shame AC didn't get a remake like Colonization. And it's not like Firaxis couldn't handle the gloomy, dystopian  atmosphere - Afterworld scenario for Beyond the Sword was incredibly creepy. Seeing how charmless, uninspired, shallow Beyond Earth is pretty sad.

Hello everyone! I've played this game since my grandfather introduced it to me when I was 10, and it remains far and away my favorite of the 4X style games. Mostly I play vanilla SMAC singleplayer on Thinker difficulty as Morgan and sometimes Lal (builders ftw), but occasionally I enjoy some local multiplayer. I've been a lurker here for a while, so it's exciting to get started as a true member of the community. I found out about the forum when I was trying to improve at the game and as I began making custom factions. I wanted to learn info about the mechanics and came across the AC2 wiki (which is awesome).

I love the lore of this game just as much as its mechanics, especially the thought-provoking ideas incorporated artfully into the game's quotes and videos. I can't wait to explore the game with the people here! Oh, I'm also human.
"Philosophy, though unable to tell us with certainty what is the true answer to the doubts which it raises, is able to suggest many possibilities which enlarge our thoughts and free them from the tyranny of custom. Thus, while diminishing our feeling of certainty as to what things are, it greatly increases our knowledge as to what they may be; it removes the somewhat arrogant dogmatism of those who have never travelled into the region of liberating doubt, and it keeps alive our sense of wonder"
