Thanks! Giving!
« on: November 26, 2020, 04:39:21 PM »
I noticed I was still doing Halloween, so I changed to the Thanksgiving theme today.  The colors, textures, icons, etc. are cool!  But why is all the text underlined?

Nobody knows.  I was never able to track that down when I made the theme.

Why on earth would you change?

The belief that Thanksgiving might be equally cool and provide seasonal variation.  But truthfully, an excuse not to do underlining would be welcome now.  Christmas is in full effect, so I will look at that!

Hmm, well, there isn't a Christmas theme per se.  There is a winter theme, but I'm not really in favor of snow.  I did that theme last year for awhile, not like I haven't done it.  I could change my mind, but for now instead I'll try the SMAC theme by BU.  It's new to me.

I will say of all the holidays, Thanksgiving comes the closest to Halloween in cool factor, largely by not having the baggage other holidays tend to bring.

Theme wise, though, try the chilling if you haven't.  Easily my favorite on here (being a fan of dark themes to begin with)

I carved a good pumpkin this year.  1st time in several years.  There was a rotten spot on the bottom, so I cut it out and made a plastic platform to hold the pumpkin up at a weird angle.  I thought, the rotten spot could be an eye socket.  So it became this cavernous skull thing, highly reminiscent of the Jack The Pumpkin King character from A Nightmare Before Christmas.

Hrm I seem to have neglected to do that.  A week after Halloween, I retired the pumpkins to behind the fence where they began rotting.  This was aesthetically acceptable for a time, but the skull pumpkin was the 1st to lose its complexion.  Then I realized I had created a standing water reservoir for bugs, so I smooshed what remained with a stick.  I don't think there's anything left anymore.

I wonder what one carves if one doesn't have a pumpkin.  It's not exactly watermelon season.

Rotten spots are always fabulous to work into a pumpkin's design, and a lot of designs improve with a little rotting.

This time of year, a lot of winter squash are still available.  I'd recommend an acorn or butternut for good carving.  There's always the original jack of a turnip as well.

It is altogether fitting that we who have sailed the deeps of space now return again to the sea. This is in many ways a water planet, and it can be ruled from the waves. With sea power, rugged terrain can be bypassed and enemy strongholds isolated. Once naval superiority is achieved, Planet is ours for the taking.
