Well, this is not going to induce me to watch The Simpsons and whatever the other characters are from.

Why?

I realize that I most likely didn't take away the lesson from this that was intended.

You're right next door, and I'm surprised Rupert Murdock didn't slime CanadiaLand with his low-rent broadcast TV network.  -You'd surely have seen plenty of The Simpsons, Family Guy and King of the Hill, all Fox Sunday night cartoons. otherwise, as nerds love that stuff, at least Family Guy before it came back from the dead with all its most irritating qualities enhanced.

You recognized Bart, the fat guy he's with is Chris Griffin, and the sensitive southern (Texan, actually) therapist is Bobby Hill.  It's a brilliant -because utterly credible, if you know the characters- extrapolation of how those three might have ended up if Bart and Chris were gay.

-Also deeply informing the joke is that Family Guy is a blatant inferior rip-off of The Simpsons made infinitely more obnoxious, and King of the Hill got lumped in with that, although it was truly a profoundly different show about an east Texas good ol' boy (and a fine tolerant hard-working man who didn't make his reactionary tendencies anyone else's problem, but was bewildered, always, by a dirty and crazy modern world) who didn't know what to do with his sensitive little boy who always gravitated to 'fruity' modern PC stuff...

While all of those are available here, I've never actually seen any of them on TV, nor watched them online. It's impossible not to recognize Bart Simpson, of course.

But I haven't watched a lot of TV in the last 20 years, and even a lot of '90s references just go over my head, if they're cartoons or sitcoms. I do remember watching a lot of Law & Order and original CSI (one of my first Lolcat pics that made the front page at the Cheezburger site referenced CSI and Gil Grissom).

It was just a couple of years ago that I saw Firefly for the first time, on Netflix. I'm actually surprised to find myself watching The 100 as it's being shown and not years later. My cable company is offering the first season of Game of Thrones free until May 15, so I might binge watch that this weekend to see if it's worth tracking down the rest of it.

Nothing beats The Simpsons for funny and clever when it's on it's best game.

-I had to be won over myself, because when the show first blew up big, it was about Bart.  Bart sucks.  The other 23 seasons or so are about Homer on the whole, who is a lot funnier - though humor is about as YMMV as it gets.

Observe the Razorbeak as it tends so carefully to the fungal blooms.. just the right bit from the yellow, then a swatch from the pink. Follow the Glow Mites as they gather and organize the fallen spores. What higher order guides their work? Mark my words: someone or something is managing the ecology of this planet.
