Mah 1st Time moderating a people...
« on: January 30, 2021, 04:23:09 PM »
When I volunteered to step up my pro-community activity answering a call for moderators at WPC, I was rather surprised they took me up on it.  Astonished, maybe.

Locutus, in his PM briefing on what they'd like me to tackle -clean up the sloppy and often redundant smilies collection installed, also mentioned non-specific something avatars- DIDN'T say anything about moderating people -I had supermod powahs everywhere- -I was actually technically an Admin with restricted access, 'cause that's where the smiley interface was- but I read between the lines that I wasn't for moderating people, something Solver soon after privately confirmed when I mentioned.

I stickeyed an existing OT Smilies thread and I see I really should have made a bigger production of the Announcement/made a new thread:  https://www.weplayciv.com/forums/topic/1705-smilies/?do=findComment&comment=200047  -And as new Sherriff of Smilietown, I solicited member input/votes about various executions -I had been part of the 'too many' problem in that very thread, but only via talking Dale into installing my work on the merits- and the organizing of that very messy/unorganized menu, leading the discussion, etc.  I said to teh bosses on Skype that I was observing the forms of democracy, and then I would make my own executive decisions and act accordingly.  I'll betray Solver's confidence in relaying that he said I Got It.

-It's also how I do most everything here, since.  I never got to anything organizing or whatever w/ avatars in time.

Two days in for me as a mod, Beta posted a Sarah Michelle Gellar nip-slip pic in a civ4 MP subforum TTT.  I wasn't for managing people -didn't want to, I'd surely suck at, besides- but this is one of those no-brainer, first-staff-on-the-scene-instant-action things, posted noodz.  Linked and quoted here as the historical curiosity it is, BU's first people-mod:

Ya. Like is that Angel there in the background? Hard to tell.

[Hated having to delete the pic, really -BU]

Oooh Beta, I think that definitely breaks a rule.

No pictures that might contain David Boreanaz at WPC. This is a family-safe site. Thanks for the look, but I have to do something about that.

There's some funny by-play after on the page, and "Boreanaz" was often used as joke code among the civ4 crowd for the rest of the time I lasted at WPC.  Moding someone and becoming more popular for it, MUST be doing SOMEthing right...

My one grief -profound- over the incident is that I -properly- shared it around privately, but don't seem to have saved - it was an ImageShack link.  It was also a thing of genuine beauty. :(

Also, I should have, many years ago, just googled Buffy nip-slip. It's the second hit in Google Images.

Begin with a function of arbitrary complexity. Feed it values 'sense data'. Then, take your result, square it, and feed it back into your original function, adding a new set of sense data. Continue to feed your results back into the original function ad infinitum. What do you have? The fundamental principle of human consciousness.
