The Orion Satellite Train

A nice view to share.

Last night, for the first time in years, I put up my telescope.
Since its still winter season (although quite warm for the time of year), and for a change skies are clear (usually things are rainy and cloudy this time of year in my region) the constellation Orion is up there in the south. I had the idea of observing the Orion Nebula (M42).
Well, after some negotiations with the ocular systems of my telescope (its an old one, all manual, and in dire need of calibration) I managed to align the mirror and the object seeker on the Nebula.
To my delight, every couple seconds there was a light swiftly passing through the ocular view. A genuine satellite train. For a time all thought of checking out M42 was gone.
They weren't visible to the naked eye at all. One really needed a telescope trained at the right declination to see them pass by.

Man is a rope, tied between beast and overman?a rope over an abyss. A dangerous across, a dangerous on-the-way, a dangerous looking-back, a dangerous shuddering and stopping. What is great in man is that he is a bridge and not an end: what can be loved in man is that he is an overture and a going under. I love those who do not know how to live, for they are those who cross over.
~Friedrich Nietzsche 'Thus Spoke Zarathustra', Datalinks
