All governments attempt to control the masses in some way; in order to justify a RESEARCH penalty you'd need something that quashes research more than the other approaches.

Democracy controls the masses by dumbing them down. I'm old enough to have seen the last vestiges of our republic before it became a democracy. Before our schools became marxist indoctrination centers and nearly every kid coming out of them sounds like a leftist robot. Most of them cant think. I'm not even joking. They aren't taught to think rationally they are trained to feel.

So then that's not fundamentalism at all, by any stretch, but rather a different government you're using instead of fundamentalism...

The USA pretty much was a fundamentalist country for the first half of its history, most of it really.
Just go into the state  constitutions (where all the real power was supposed to be) many of them openly
said you had to be a white Christian Protestant to even hold office.

That's really more a feature of "values" (possibly with some "economics" thrown in) than "politics", though.

That's not fundamentalism.  Fundamentalism, particularly of the  variety, would say "you have to be a clergyman to hold office, and any proposed legislation shall be evaluated based primarily on its Biblical merits."
