There's a term forum people use to refer to members who only neg.  We've been over and over this in the Star Trek thread repeatedly, and you got nothing to say about what you like or why you like it - just drive-bys to criticize another member's expression of opinion.

[admin hat] Get in the habit of expressing your own positive opinions, how and why you are in favor of/ like something in  in some small detail, to balance out the bad-mouthing.  That is how a healthy community works.  You do not add content in here; you only complain.  That must stop.

I am here because of SMAC, nothing else. I’m not here because I don’t have a life or am looking for friends; if we’re going to spread our credentials like in a schoolyard, I was in ACDG3 at Poly, then I played MP and some GotM at WPC and was the one bearing your DG, and here I still play MP and GotMs. I very rarely venture inside the Rec Commons, the place where you open threads like they are candies and where you force-feed your opinions on others. Your attitude and your presence is precisely why I don’t want to post on Rec Commons because you can’t take any disagreeing opinion without going crazy with your “admin hat” .

I found comical or caricatural the way you’re repeating yourself over tens of pages about “fake Trek”, about your hate of everything Star Trek beyond 1980, be there movies, actors or series. I only watched some TOS episodes 35 years ago and I like to see reruns of the movies when they air on TV, nothing else; I’ve nothing to do with your obsession nor do I know the third of what you’re talking about since I never had a chance to watch NG, Voyager, DS9… I’ll probably buy them one day in a full DVD-pack, and I’ll probably be entertained just as with Star Trek Generations. It’s usually to the one who dislike to say why, otherwise you’re just spoiling fun for people who like: tastes and colors, we say in French, is a personal matter. Keep saying only idiots could like this or that and these idiots won’t show anymore here!

I never insulted you, never went into personal attacks because, for me, these were only casual talks of no importance at all. If you’re going mad about a simple remark, you should avoid talking politics.
Besides, YOU are the one enforcing some particularly strict profanity filter on this forum, saying your mother should be able to read it without cringing. Well, would she have condoned you for calling me a butthole or would she have washed your mouth with soap?

Not that I care much for all these gentlemen, being the Atlantic away, but in a country where half-population vote Republican I wonder how many people won’t post again because you’re insulting them by insulting their views and who they vote for. Always funny to see that you’re at the same time the most prolific poster, the most aggressive and the co-administrator. And after that, you complain few people contribute:

And the fact is, you’ve been at it for a long time. I wasn’t so interested about SMAC-infighting but you made me so I dug to see better. You seem to be the one who can’t get along with anybody, you even acknowledge it yourself:

NerdWars(tm) in the SMAC(X) community have driven away a lot of innocent bystanders who have gotten caught up/disgusted/etc., in addition to the direct participants who have left/ostracized themselves/whatever. The most guilty, themselves, are major losses of talent to the community. The loss of those casualties , innocent or otherwise, the on-going refusal of certain people to talk or work together, brought us here to this lonely place, and are maybe the biggest single thing we're up against.

I've been a major star in the NerdWars(tm) myself, and no matter how I still think I was wronged, I am ashamed of my involvement and the collateral damage. I don't like to admit it, but the amends can't begin without some confession/contrition. I am ashamed, and I apologize to all the innocent for my part in things.

So what can we do to heal the community? I'd like to see my "enemies" come back and apply their wonderful talents to this forum. I'd like to forget the past - at the very least, be at peace, on speaking terms, and willing to engage in inter-forum cooperation. I'd like to go back to making the occasional post at the other AC forums - a rising tide and all that.

This isn't my personal desire talking, but my duty to the community I cherish so and helped to harm. My NerdWars(tm) are over. Let's have peace and healing. Let's pull together and make the community great, like it was a few years ago.

You love to appear like a victim, someone of goodwill, ready to help and wanting to reunite a community but your acts say different. In SMAC, you would be the self-righteous Brother Lal, always talking of peace and of the disaster of the mission division but eager to go to war or threaten as soon as he gets some power.

Aah, seems like I was on subject here.
Reasonable solution: dissociate the functions of administrator, moderator and don’t let one of them being main poster. One can’t always be judge and jury, especially when he’s highly partisan on many subjects.

I am not the sole owner, and I treat him as more-or-less the boss of me, because I know perfectly well what I am.  Unfortunately, there's only me doing all the work of running and maintaining this forum north of 90% of the time -more, when it comes to people management.  Appealing to sisko and trying to get him to talk me down is always appropriate; doubling down on previous attacks is always a bad idea.



When I was put in the position of issuing my first ban, I literally thought to myself "If I don't step on this right now, there's no end to it."  I thought the same before issuing my third ban, and I thought the same this morning.  There's just no one else to do it.  I wouldn't allow, say for example, Green1 to be harassed like this.  My nerdbadge neither grants me license to do as I please when I please, nor grants anyone else license to abuse me in ways I wouldn't allow towards another member.  There's ways to try to work out issues with another member, and the above is not it, being especially beyond the pale in the face of explicit official warning.

It is frustrating to have expressed one's self clearly and see it fail to sink in.  I once, a very long time ago on another site, responded to an apology with "Apology not accepted - none needed."  Lord Lord, did the "none needed" ever fail to sink in.  I never heard the end of having the first half thrown in my face like I hadn't said "none needed" right there on the page in front of everyone, spelled right and everything.  This is the world I have to live in, with such people in it.

Attack the ideas, if you must, not the person expressing them, and be civil when you do - actual politeness is even better.  Doing nothing but attacking is not welcome in this community.  Doing nothing but attacking is trolling.

I don't like disappearing things, and it's hard to know how to respond to an ugly, irresponsible at best, stalky attack like the OP - but the way the world works, unfortunately, is that some people will read the thing and take me not dignifying it with a denial as some sort of admission.

Well, okay then; I see something up there about an exchange over the Dune movie that searching indicates only happened in Vishniac's imagination.  I see a quote of what I said about Godwin and Vishniac -an admission that the calling Nazis Nazis I'm prone to was indeed poor form- taken as mockery.

Oh please.  Days spent stalking my posts to mine for quotes, but no evidence of a second spent understanding a single word I said in any of them.  I'd be ashamed of myself if I put so much time and hate into an attack piece - doubly so if I did such a bad job.
