...I am currently up to 85N/273M/143E from satellites and ED is 410. Curiously, I'm not getting any mind worms to spawn. I had hoped to harvest them for EC's.
It might be possible to do something like this much earlier in a game with a sea colony or two in the New Sargasso.

That's hillarious.On the other end of things, I am shocked at how permissive to industry a hybrid forest makes your base. I sent out supply crawlers and crawled a base to 70 minerals without showing eco-damage. As it got higher than that, I saw "3" damage. I got bored and quit that game before finding any more out. In my current game I intent to get around to crawling a base really hard, but right now I'm in a bit of a war.
It could be that you also had built a lot of ecological facilities (each of which makes all your bases permissive to industry;

Which is documented, the game is supposed to do that. I just never knew it, nor did I tend to play with truly massive numbers of supply crawlers providing minerals for only 1 city. Even after 17 years I'm still learning a few dusty corners of the game.I'm seeing a strange phenomenon in a new game I'm playing. I don't even have tree farm or hybrid forest technologies yet. I've got bases that earlier in the game, were doing noticeable eco-damage, like 12. Now they do nothing, and I'm pretty sure they're cranking out the same amount of minerals production. My land does have a lot of forests on it now. Do forests alone decrease eco-damage?
Yes; each forest has effect opposite one unworked farm/mine/road/etc., or half of a worked one.
Not sure that that could bring it down from 12 to 0 that early in the game, though.
