Je suis, comme qui dirait, l'un des propriétaires du site. Celui qui s'occupe le plus de gérer les personnes, de sorte que vous pouvez venir me parler des problèmes que vous pourriez avoir. Gardez à l'esprit que je n'aime vraiment pas les MP sauf si la question est vraiment privée / nécessite de la discrétion - un problème avec un autre membre peut être une question de discrétion. Pour une performance de forum question / question de politique générale / etc. mieux vaut la poster généralement dans la salle du Conseil, par exemple.

La communauté est heureuse de vous accueillir et s'efforcera de vous aider. N'hésitez pas à participer !

I'm, whatchacallit, one of the owners; the one who does most of the people management, so you can come to me with problems, keeping in mind that I actually don't like PMs unless the matter really is private/calls for discretion - a problem with another member being a matter of discretion and a forum performance issue/general policy stuff/etc. being fine to just post about in Council Room, for example.

S'il s'agit d'une traduction des différents fichiers du jeu qui permet de jouer en français à SMAX et SMAC je ne pense pas qu'il y ait de problème de droits.

Par ailleurs les mettre à disposition directement sur le site serait effectivement un plus pour les joueurs francophones.

What I just wrote is that as long as it's a simple translation of the game language files in french I don't think there is a copyright infringement.

And hosting the files there would be a nice add-on for french speaking players.

The download alone won't allow you to play SMAC if you don't already own it.
You need to copy it contents over a legit English version to be able to use it.

Everything has been made from a Loki Linux version, a GOG.com English version and an old CD French version.

Here is what's inside:
_text files with language-specific content
_voice files (for quotes and CPU notifications)
_video files (intro and secret projects)

smacfr-windows is around ~410Mb and smacfr-linux is around ~480Mb.
Some of the files are duplicate between the two downloads, but videos are not in the same format: smacfr-windows provides .wve files and smacfr-linux provides .mpg files.

Attached to this post you can find the full list of the downloads contents.

I am totally okay with the idea of you hosting these files, I've shared these in the first place to make sure they won't disappear soon

Most of them are coming from various downloads I've found, my work has only been:
_find those wherever they were hiding on the Internet (not the easiest part)
_put them all together in a single download
_realize that the Windows version use a very strange video format
_spend a whole night on conversion, and reconversion of said videos…
_run some tests and do some slight corrections in the text files (bug fixes only)
_share everything in a couple forums to make sure I'm the last one needing all this work

Sadly, the archives weight too much to be uploaded there:

That's because they do include the movies.
I'll have to try to find a way to provide only the audio part of the movies and a patch to insert it in the movies already here.

It should be easy for Linux (videos in .mpg), but for Windows it seems to be nearly impossible unless you know of a .wve muxer/demuxer out there?

Bah, anyway I'm going to work on a way to turn this into a (much lighter) patch instead of an archive containing full files.
It does mean I've a couple more sleepless nights waiting for me

Linux version should come much sooner than the Windows one, because I just don't know how to use Windows…
