Potential changes to Photon/Wave Mechanics
« on: March 09, 2014, 07:40:55 PM »
The current technology shortname for Photon/Wave Mechanics is DocSec. What do you think DocSec means? Barring the standard outline for doctrine techs, what do you think the technology image should look like? What are your thoughts/opinion on this?

My guess is that they were originally going to have Doctrine: Security, and then decided to scrap it and replace it with Photon/Wave Mechanics, but didn't bother to change the key because it has no in-game effect.

My first thought was Doctrine: Security also.  Though that doesn't fit the corresponding armor class "Photon Armor".  The thing is all the Doctrine: XX techs lead to new chassis other than Doctrine: Loyalty.  And that one gives a defensive structure (Perim Defense).  It's my guess that originally Doctrine: Security was linked to Tachyon field (or it's predecessor) which later got moved to the next tech (Probability Mechanics).

Some of them are rather interesting: HAL9000 and BFG9000 for example

Technological advance is an inherently iterative process. One does not simply take sand from the beach and produce a Dataprobe. We use crude tools to fashion better tools, and then our better tools to fashion more precise tools, and so on. Each minor refinement is a step in the process, and all of the steps must be taken.
