Oh I remember that one. Glorious.

I suppose Mylochka went through a hair straightening phase if hers was even half like that.
When she was 15, there were boys at school who called her "bushwoman" (but she was too young to know that there was an element of little boys kicking a pretty girl to it) - and she didn't have half as thick a head of hair as I.

Daddy's red crew cut was pretty nappy if you looked close.  So many pale, high-tempered redheads on that side you'd think we were Irish, not mostly German.  The convict was a glorious strawberry blonde in her youth, and pretty enough to model, though she didn't.  Buster's Daddy answers to a cleaner-cut version of my general description, not even general; same build, same colors, close in size, sound alike on the phone so much we used to mess with people until our church youth director stopped calling the house for anything - but straight hair, go figure.

Yes.  The price for sharing is $5,000 -or arrange for RoxxyX to be my girlfriend for at least a weekend.

-My overalls and Southeastern US accent went over quite well wit' teh homies - (black folks think I'm "phat stupid", and THAT part, I didn't make up; it's an actual quote from a brother I worked a temp assignment alongside in 1991).

Well phooey.

-And here I am so cool I had to ask the brother whether that was "good-stupid, or bad-stupid?"  I DID know "phat" was a superlative...

I believe 1988, it's rugby stripe! :danc:

My dad and brother had curls like that, although they both went bald young. Lookin' good!

In those days I had well curled handlebars and a goatee in the spring/summer, with full beard in the winter, similar color. That and a couple of rugby shirts, only with collars.

Imagining your face with a beard, it suits, I think.

Human ineptitude has caused us to forfeit a doctor's appointment that would have given us a surgery schedule and something to plan around. So we'll be in uncertainty for yet another week. This stress, curtailed sleep and the built-in driving today leaves me pretty tired.

Goodnight.

Today was a day trip to the nursing home, about 3 hours or so each way. My dad is there as resident rehab patient. The news is all good. He can now lift 55lbs with the left hand, and 10 with the right. The doctors and rehab people are impressed with his progress so much that they have gotten an extra week of therapy approved with medicare, if I understand correctly. ( which I may not have, my hearing is suspect. ) This means that he will be there as long as I am here in PA, unless they want to move him to the hospital for the next surgery. He is almost feeding himself entire meals. He wants to go to the bathroom by himself, but he's not allowed because of the danger of falling and no top on his skull. He can walk over 100 feet with the aid of a walker.
He doesn't need speech therapy any more.

So even though I did double the driving of Monday, I'm less stressed and tired.

------------------------

It occurs to me that as heroic as his struggles for recovery have been, and those of another friend I have paralyzed in a car accident, and as amazing as those partial recoveries have been, that's not who I am.

I would have tried to learn to eat and do other things with my left hand, with the goal of getting good enough to go home. I'm a roll with the punches kind of guy. I dwell on what is left rather than what is lost and try to adapt. Try to get back to living, rather than try to deny the diagnosis.  Try to recover quickly rather than completely.

----------------------------

On the diet front, my weight is oscillationg around 250. Had to put some tape on my wedding ring to keep it on. Also, people noticed that the dimples in my cheeks when I smile have re-appeared. My recent pictures look like myself from years ago.

It might be at a redistribution phase, before it starts to go down more.  Sometimes happens.  Might need some walking off to help with it...  Won't hurt...

Until now the battle had been proceeding smoothly. The enemy was outflanked and had been driven from the reactor housing, but against the reactor itself the matter canons were strangely ineffective. Rounds simply-stopped-in mid air.
