Separation went as well as could be hoped.  No damage to The Martian core, as when I get the vaseline wiped off, I'm that much ahead on that.

Now to mache the back of the Mars Face a couple layers to help hold the whole thing together...

I plan to give it another layer, but the face part was beginning to soften, so a little time in front of the dehumidifier first...  I want the center of this thing strong.

I get distracted by the various images in the paper, including the American flag stuff and the eye in the lower left corner of the last picture.

Ha!  That's what I get for taking pictures mostly in focus.

I just had to try this last night -

No shooping except brightness/contrast and color level.

Well Johnny Devil's done, The Martian is already several layers along, Crone and Johnny have several days worth to go -I find myself worried about wasting effort stopping too soon again- and Mars Face is on my desk ready to start with coating the back/inside.  I've already burned through 3/4ths of the new latex.

Another irritating thing about having several at the latexing stage at once is, I gotta find somewhere to put them while they dry, unless I've got nothing else going I need my workspace for...

-And that's just while they're in the making them stage - I also need to consolidate two computer junk drawers in my desk to liberate one as a second finished bases storage drawer...


Looking forward to knocking off a Johnny Devil mask, but not tonight; I'd like to be asleep in three hours.

Also in the queue; Dixie, paint some devils, and the back of my head is designing something built over the Mars Face - with Johnny's face over it, it wouldn't be hard to turn the space helmet into a pharaonic headdress.  Get Mylochka on it with some gold and turquoise paint, and I bet some King Tut masks would be popular...

It'll be my first shell of a shell...

The day's first round of dabbing out of the way now.  All four took a little while.

Now to do a Johnny Devil mask.  YES!


I find myself motivated, as far as what order I tackle jobs, by things like what will need dry time, so best get it out of the way so I can work on the next thing instead of waiting - and, I need to get all these bases off my desk before I mask on Johnny Devil...

I tell you, first mache layers are a pain since I started laying separation layers in the vaseline -they slide around, at best, until I lay some gluey paper over them- just less pain than damaging the mask getting it off the form later, and they soak up a lot of the vaseline, too.

I had to stop at the first layer for lunch, cats, and tomorrow's Mom's birthday, so I had to go buy her some puzzles.  Not setting any speed records on this mask; the third layer's yet to be done...l

Strange thing; as I work on my projects, my office, unintuitively, slowly gets cleaner.  I keep randomly throwing out stuff in the way, finding something useful in the piles on my desk and putting it where I can find it when I need it, and the spaghetti pile to the left is cut strips that have been sitting out for years, and I'm slowly depleting now.  -Much more in a trash bag on the floor, but that's at about half volume that I brought to America, and besides, still in its proper place.

My slovenly habits actually arise as a reaction to my natural nerd mania for order.  Dad lined his shoes up at bedtime, and I'm too much that way and can't take the stress if I let it register on me.  But I'm serious about my sculpture, and putting this and that in its place as I come across it, instead of making a job of it, suits me, and is worthwhile.

-It's when I'm depressed, and nothing seems to matter, or at least won't work if I try, that the piles get hard to wade through...

That devil-mask picture above the hound pictures was very festive looking.

Is Dixie a particular type of hound? She looks fast.

A construction paper first layer definitely makes for a more interesting back.

I don't think it's known just what Dixie is.  I've no way to tell if she'd be considered fast - but she weighs over eighty pounds; I doubt it a little.

Probably not going to get much done today - a bunch of family have invited themselves over for Momma's birthday.
