Middle Earth - A SMAX Scenario/Conversion
« on: November 03, 2014, 03:42:37 AM »
I will need help on this I'm going to try to work on the faction art by myself mostly, so ask me beforehand if your going to try and make a faction pcx. but when it comes to writing or anything else your welcome to help. This will be my first scenario. Perhaps that is unwise.
Anyway, let's get on with it.

The story...
So apparently an old user named zsozso was working on a Middle Earth scenario. I'm quite fond of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
I want to make something similar to this.

Ideas:
Setting: War of the Ring
This will be mostly based off of the movies. I have read the Fellowship of the Ring, and I do plan to finish the Two Towers (hopefully before anything important is finished). So some writing could come from there.
Faction Ideas
1. Gondor           2. Rohan     3. Isengard       4. The Elves (rivendell)    5. Mordor (the orcs)    6. The Shire (Not quite sure about this one)     7. Ents (Remember the giant tree people from the Two Towers movie?)

The only thing you can expect for sure without some help from the community is seven Middle-Earth based factions. But those won't be any use without a map that fits them, right?

Terrain Ideas
Xenofungus - Perhaps one of those cracks that the orcs live in? Not sure what it's called.
Regular Sand - Grass
Left the internet, more-or-less.... Might drop in occasionally.

Just took a look on that thread.
Oh, wow. That's almost all of them done.
Well then, thats 6/7 of the factions knocked out. I guess I'll do the Ents tomorrow then...
Then I'll try to change the terrain. I probably have to much freetime, but if we're doing a scenario we might as well make our own graphics for it as well!  ;)
Although your idea was a bit different, according to the parts of the thread I read. You wanted to have a Shire faction with a Frodo/Sam unit and a Ring unit trying to get it to Mount Doom. My plan is to focus more on the war. But it could still work, this isn't my project. It belongs to anyone who wants to help.
I do regret that I can't change the terraformed-square graphics individually for each faction though. Seems a bit strange to be having grass for soil in Mordor and such. But I should be going now.

Don't worry too much about what I suggested doing.

You can do interesting things with terrain modding - think in terms of a prepared map, and you can cheat your way around grass in Mordor.

I'm thinking make the terrain very rocky in Mordor.
And then make the rock graphic black asphlat-ish color. I'm assuming you meant something like that?

Yeah - and as someone suggested in there, make clever use of special terrains like uranium flats or something, only disguised with a terrain texture mod.

Here is a WIP graphic for the Ents.
I'm still trying to find a really perfect shot of an overhead forest in a circular shape for the base.

Fossils fuels in the last century reached their extreme prices because of their inherent utility: they pack a great deal of potential energy into an extremely efficient package. If we can but sidestep the 100-million-year production process, we can corner this market once again.
