I imagine it would call for some sort of slick coating inside the mold more than some other more substantial materials, but just guessing.

That's my theory.  You're supposed to coat a silicone mold with dish soap for foam casting, I don't see any real reason it wouldn't work in plaster. 

Anyway, did a little skull motif overlay design and have the plaster setting now.  Probably be able to try a cast tomorrow.

I just needed to play with something.  I've got too much testing to do to make concrete plans yet.  Waiting on the foam coating so I can know it's properties before I start slapping things on.

Are you planning to more try to cast sides in one piece, or glue elements toether?

Yeah...it's not worth going into, just another 'we all need to rally around' my older brother speech, which prompted my searching for the clay yesterday, and here we are.

I'm thinking I screwed up and shouldn't have put my walls on yet, but going to glue everything on separately. 

The best way to explain the plan is to look at the frame.



Basically, the uprights are how I intend to section my tomb off, and will have a column on the outside over top of each of them, for 3 figures on each side and one at either end.  I could arch that span, but it would make the figures smaller, so I got to figure that out. 

The next step is to play with this foam coating and build the fog chiller once I get a handle on how it works/which kind of coating I'm using.  (I'm basically getting a sample pack.)

So a column on each corner and two in between.  And haven't decided what figures to put between them, but it calls for eight if one goes on each end and each is unique.  And of course, a full-sized one recumbant on top.  Hmmm.

Oh, I'm fairly sure I'm doing the pleurants at this point.  All faceless/face covered.  Subtle, main stream, fitting, and non-religious.  Plus I find they are quite creepy in their own right, myself.  At least the faceless variety. 

Now, what else I decide to do to this thing, who knows.

I just bought more rigid wrap.  Otherwise still at work. 

Going to be launching a new skeleton tutorial focused on being even cheaper and (more importantly) easier than Bob ($20 paper mache) soonish.  (maybe this week/end)  He'll need a name. 

The plaster mold looked good this morning.

Yeah, it's just the brand of the plaster wrap that's in Michaels.  I use the weekly coupons to buy it at half price. 

I don't know,  "Rigor the rigid wrap skeleton" has a ring to it.

There HAS to be a better way than those overpriced sheets they sell at Michaels, even at half-off.  I know there's stuff it's used in the construction industry - (I've worked contruction a bit, and never saw it used, but but it was around sometimes and I imagine it was for free-form molds when a little cement was needed to be added on corners or something) - getting it in biggish rolls through construction supply places ought to be a guaranteed savings.
