So, apparently someone made a god awful remake made for TV miniseries of Jason and the Argonauts. 

It features some of the worst CGI I've ever seen, and they utterly destroyed among the best scenes of the original movie, replacing the skeletons with these plant soldiers....


The plant soldier things are not a bad idea....

Is that the one with Dennis Hopper as uncle Peleus and the weird created-by-Hera Heracles?  If so, the special effects didn't register on me, and I thought it was very good.

2000 sounds about right; it was really very good, aside from the special effects - and what they did with Heracles' background was strange, but the character was cast and played well.  Somebody bothered to research classical hairstyles, though that's dubious as to Jason's time, it's certainly how the classical Greeks would have portrayed it.

Do I take it that you regard this as good news and a shot at publicity?  We felt that way last year when some online thingy wanted to use one of our mask pictures in a slideshow.

I think I've figured out what the Halloween smilie needs to finally get that candle-flickering-inside effect working right.    More on that soon.

I find it a very strange picture to want to use, but otherwise, yeah. 

I've also been featured on Pumpkinrot for the 5th straight year.  We're very similar in our vision of Halloween, some consider 'boring'.  He's been an online presence a hell of a lot longer than I, though, and is more famous in that way.

Uno, your pics remind me of a guy named Egytian Bob who used to live in the French Quarter before Katrina. While he did not have as nice of a place that you have and and only had an old slave quarter he rented overlooking a courtyard, his place was much like yours.

That was one interesting guy.

Nah, he's on the other side of the country.  He is the better photographer of the two of us, I will say that.

I can see that there's a fog machine, so it's certainly not all just good photography.

Oh, no, he's an amazing artist as well, but he's a far better photographer than I at the same time. 

Partly because I still haven't figured out the secret of photographing in fog.  It plays havoc with camera settings.

The trouble with the Halloween smilie was that it plays on the forum with the default timing of 100ms, instead of the values I entered.  It also needed a lot more frames to pseudo-randomize the flicker.  I'm almost done with the frames, and don't know what to do if a new file has the same timing problem...

Siiigh.  The extra frames are a big improvement, IMAO, but the file plays roughly 10 times quicker on average on GIMP - much more flickery.  When I open it in a plain IE tab, same problem. 

I'm gonna email you a copy; maybe it'll work better for you, and you might find a use for it on your website.
