Whoever put the "Lurkers - sign up and get involved. We want you!" in the site header is a genius. Though now that I did that I wonder why I'm still seeing it.

So, at the risk of saying things that have already been said in this thread because I haven't read all of it:

Hello everyone! Nice to see other other people who love SMAC, a game that continues to be more enjoyable then what Fraxis puts out these days *cough*Civ5*cough*. In answer to the how I found you question, I was searching for patches. The relevant info about me is that I have been playing this game since I was 10. I should be much better at it than i am but I've only ever played against the computer so loads of bad habits, I'm sure.

Just wanted to let folks know I'm still alive and sorta functional - a month of combining modern Doctor Who on Netflix (in preparation for watching the 50th anniversary stuff) plus doing NaNoWriMo is why I've been gone.

But they're over now, so here I am.

Hi! My name is Frank, and I'm not a bot. I don't know if there's a way to prove that I'm not a bot, but I believe I'm a pretty sentient human being, and not a bot. I mean I'm telling you that I'm human and not a bot. How much more proof that I'm not a bot do you need? ^^

SMAC has been my all-time favorite strategy game. I still have the original CD and the game has never left my hard disk since the day of its release; I always install it whenever I get a new laptop. I found this place while I was absent-mindedly googling for unofficial patch. I was very surprised that there was a community for SMAC like this.

I might not be able to stay active or contribute much, but I'll be here. Nice to meet you all and thank you for accepting me, who is not a bot.

Ha ha nope I've been using this name since a long time ago. the word comes from a Christmas carol and has a Frank in it so I kinda use it.

Actually, it's the name of a type of incense (made from tree sap IIRC) that used to be fairly commonly used.
