Middle Earth base names in seven languages
« on: August 12, 2014, 09:35:44 PM »
Here are some base names in seven different Middle-Earth languages. Each list has 99-116 land base names and 21-53 sea base names. I've had no problem in the game with so many names for the program to read. There is no problem with the accented characters in Valarin and Adûnaic, as they are represented in all the fonts used in the game. Please forgive the lame text in the faction files. I don't pay much attention to it anymore.

Valarin = Angelic
Quenya = High Elven
Sindarin = Grey Elven
Drow = Dark Elven
Khuzdul = Dwarvish
Adûnaic = Númenórean
Ansalonian = Human ( commonly called simply "Men" )

Sorry. I didn't cull the names from the books myself, but used a handy little program called The Everchanging Book of Names (I use v2.1, but it's been developed through v3.4).

"The Everchanging Book of Names (a.k.a. EBoN) is a shareware random name generator for Windows 95. Its highly sophisticated algorithm ensures that most of the names generated by it are readily usable.
The program was originally meant to produce names for role-playing characters, but it can be and has been used in various other situations where random names are needed."

The lists can be character names, place names, etc. Once the list is generated, you copy-and-paste it into a faction.txt and add your favorites. I've had a lot of fun with it.
