Is it a bug; should I change it without providing the option to use the old way?

Yes it's a bug, change it.

Is this a bug? (Fungus resources)

Fungus squares do not get any bonus resources from on-map nutrient/mineral/energy squares, or from rivers, or from +2 ECONOMY.  So the question is: Is this a bug?

No, I don't think it's a bug.  You can't even harvest anything from fungus until you have the right techs, representing new colonists not knowing what to do with xenofungus.  Once they learn to work with/around fungus, I suppose you could allow the bonus of the resource that can now be used:  i.e., once you can harvest fungus for nutrients, you can also gain the nutrient bonus.

Actually, now that I've thought through this, maybe it is a bug (can I change my vote?).  Why can't you get a particular bonus once you can use fungus for that resource?  I think boni should be blocked until you have the appropriate tech.
Your agonizer, please.

Agreed with Lord Avalon. Unlocking the boni after the appropriate Centauri tech is researched seems only fair.
OTOH, funfus tile yields are pretty good if you went the full green route, but that's mostly in the endgame.

I don't think its a bug personally, but it would be nice if you had the proper technologies you'd be able to utilize them more.

Fungus, even with rivers wouldn't be too useful story wise until you get the proper technology to harvest and process it. Water would be contaminated with spores and it wouldn't be safe at all.

So it sounds like the consensus is that fungus should give bonus resources, but only if you'd be getting at least one of that resource anyway.  So maybe have it first give based on tech, then subtract what you lose for a negative PLANET rating, and if there's anything left for that resource, apply bonuses/rivers/ECONOMY.

Seems to be a debate whether the inability to do that is a bug, though, so I'll leave it as optional.

Now it's day and night the irons clang, and like poor galley slaves
We toil and toil, and when we die, must fill dishonored graves
But some dark night, when everything is silent in the town
I'll shoot those tyrants one and all, I'll gun the flogger down
I'll give the land a little shock, remember what I say,
And they'll yet regret they've sent Jim Jones in chains to Botany Bay.
