Gold Rush

My first go at an AAR, and this will be heavily spoilered as the game is an attempt at a speed run abusing a number of "features"*. I'll try to keep to the ;morgan;-ite style of storytelling, wrangling profit from disaster while being somewhat informative and entertaining.

I am confused.  Why are you including seemingly random music videos?  As for Spoilers, I think it would be better to actually describe what's occurring in your game, then have a Spoiler for the part that's actually a cheat.  Otherwise, there isn't anything to read.  Somebody might download your saved games and manually check them out, but that's not really what the medium of an AAR on a webpage is about.  It's reading about someone else's game.  I can see the saved games being useful if someone wanted to duplicate your techniques firsthand.

Corrected the Message Icon to indicate it's still a work in progress. You're still welcome to see things unravel if you'd like, or check back after it's done.

Each quote and music describes the major event of that particular turn. Election Day is the turn I steal the planetary governorship for example. The Field of Dreams quote is because I also built the Merchant Exchange that turn.

They're links rather for the music, rather than embedded, to keep them entirely optional. You can skip past them if you so choose. I actually am autistic in real life, and I'm much more comfortable expressing things via music when I can (although I'm not particularly good at anything but vocals). So I tend to share snippets of music that do seem, at least to me, to express what I want to get across.

Spoilering the rest is because almost everything step I'm describing is considered a cheat, by several people, in at least one of the polls previously on this site. The manual saves are because it takes literally 30ish minutes between some of the actions, but I can still demonstrate that they are possible with a save game. This is more a combination of speculative fiction and a massive bug report in the vein of "speed run" style video game playthroughs demonstrating that you can stitch together a bunch of events and get ridiculous results. It's not meant to demonstrate good gameplay, it's more "the best of all possible worlds" from the novel "Candide".

As far as describing what's happening in game, it's MY2102 so far. I've managed to demonstrated you could contact all the other factions, and build a secret project already. And there's about a dozen things I haven't even had enough moves/turns to demonstrate yet. Also, it's going to be 19ish posts for the turns total, so I'm still working out the story in my mind. The actions in the spoilers are going in first because I've got them sorted out mentally already. I apologize if this is bassackwards, but it's going to be a Work in Progress rather than finished project all at once.

Here is what I suggest then.  Rather than having spoilers every single post, put a gigantic banner at the top of your 1st post that this AAR is FULL OF CHEATS.  STOP READING NOW if you don't want to know about them.  Make those letters really huge to give some spoiler space in people's browsers.  That way, there's actually something to read in your AAR.  What you've provided so far, is the choice between reading your AAR or completely not reading it.  I can just skip the whole thread if I'm not going to read it.  Without any text to actually read, how would I know that I actually wanted to see what's inside any specific Spoiler?

Something to consider, is that making posts is usually perceived as a serialized medium.  Like a radio show every night, or giving out the next chapter of a penny dreadful novel.  You can possibly get more attention for your work if you make it readable "as you go along".  There are challenges in this, to be sure, even for someone experienced with both writing and AARs.  Myself, I have taken to composing things offline before finally cutting and pasting to the thread.

If you can't be bothered to read the very first sentence, including the footnote, I don't think an enormous graphic will help. It's been there the entire time.

And further clarification, this was my second attempt at a condensed game using the same beginning point. The first began April 29th. The second go began May 5th and concluded June 17th. Much of this is mental archaeology as I try to piece together what actually happened this time, excluding bits I recall from the first time (which is sloshing together more often than I like to admit) into something coherent that I can share. If I ever do second of these, I'm going to actually make notes as I go.

Also, thank you for all the pointers. I enjoy discussing/arguing/coming to better conclusions with your assistance. I tend to be succinct with my words, and if they ever come across as angry I do not intend that. I still reserve the right to be grumpy and/or irritable prior to the consumption of coffee on any given day.

And you would be wrong.  Since you said your intent isn't anger, let me be blunt.  A good AAR is also a visual medium.  I'm not as YouTube oriented as a lot of the world is today, but
big bold messages help comprehension
and that's not even making it as in yo face as I could.

Actually having something to read on your page is part of the visual medium.

I've got 1.5 years working on AARs for this game now.  Piles and piles of them in this forum.  If you start from my earliest ones and look at my latest ones, you can see a progression.  I don't claim to be "the last word" in AARs, because I've only put as much effort into them as I was willing to spend.  I can actually write better than any AAR I've ever made, but it's not worth the creative writing production time to me.  For that level of writing, I'd either like to find a way to get paid, or to secure a much larger audience for the trouble.  My current AAR, I crank it out "efficient and cheap".  Mainly I'm learning to use fewer words and skip stuff that isn't important.  The net effect is sentences rather than paragraphs to wade through, and a lot more images.

I know that with the video links, you're trying to make "everything optional".  The problem is, you have yet to provide anything in your AAR that's actually mandatory, that decidedly is the AAR.  So on the principle of visual organization, I'm going to suggest that you 1) embed your videos, and 2) explain why the heck they're even there.  With like 1 sentence or brief caption.  I "caption" my own images by naming the files in a cheeky way.  You can see examples of what I mean in my latest AAR.  You really should have a reason for why these videos are here at all.  It can be said in as few words as possible.

The Mind Worms are the natural defenses of the living Planet?the white blood cells, if you will. In a world in which unassimilated thought represents danger, the Mind Worm seeks out concentrations of sentient mental energy and destroys them, ruthlessly and efficiently.
