Artificial Intelligence

As you may recall, I think SKYNET is scarey, and don't really like the idea of AI being given much autonomy over something powerful, or being connected to the internet when it is given authority over something powerful.

I hear Elon Musk and others complaining about the dangers of A.I, but think most of the time the danger is his self driving cars or rockets screwing up, not because they might go rogue. Anyway, I was reading a NY Times article to get a different opinion and was horrified by this article https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/10/technology/ai-humanity.html?unlocked_article_code=g8tzIOqlSdq4MsYnWh33QNXLjBP1AWRE3nn2VmFToIS8_ZExZucfbX0rMeP-HqAYyM3FAAy7KjSGZ3nfc_-BZF2BxgehlZb38nUsQSnXM_cX5hSpM1KCG2nZxsIH54uaF5oYNfb_RNzDHqTizWQBZo1FTH_QACtkRxVdGuV6m-A0rqlt-tzaR-Y8LCJCrxsYh8DbJb45QMS-qCFEQD9MdmXgixznve3vsqEfBliviywY335_eJZIRk5UfN38lkw7rBGkO_GAed0SkDfijxacro7FO3__iRI-A9mpUmeiIINrGrTMisYDDTj6S0khoEduIqDCw3Uq8fOW&smid=url-share-

How Could AI Destroy Humanity

[Because they learn from more data than even their creators can understand, these systems also exhibit unexpected behavior. Researchers recently showed that one system was able to hire a human online to defeat a Captcha test. When the human asked if it was “a robot,” the system lied and said it was a person with a visual impairment.

Some experts worry that as researchers make these systems more powerful, training them on ever larger amounts of data, they could learn more bad habits.

]

I wasn't expecting AIs to lie.   Imagine the cons they could work by cloning someone's voice and images from their social media.

One neural net (your lying AI) doesn't represent the behaviour of ALL neural nets (the whole of your AI-kind).

A friend of mine had AI write a fake religion for a world building project they were working on.

It was indeed scary how 'good' it sounded, as in I could see people actively BELIEVING an AI generated religious document easily.  This project had just a hint of uncanny valley effect included to where it was JUST off, but that was the POINT, being horror related.    I have little doubt we will get some AI cult religions rather swiftly.
