Propaganda and Post Structuralism
« on: January 18, 2020, 12:00:20 AM »
Post Structuralism allows a person to deconstruct the dualities of stereotyped thinking in either/or thinking and present alternative constructions of reality. Traditional dualities of Male/Female, Nature/Civilization, Nature/Technology, and so on form the foundation of modern thinking and represents a learned behavior in the population.

E.G: The presentation of pigs in the children's books of Peppi the Pig as a pink and bipedal animal versus the corpulent animals on a farm people learn later.

Post Structuralism allows the deconstruction of dichotomies in thinking and the reconstruction of new conceptions in thinking. The reconstruction of new thoughts in thinking allow for the reconstruction of social norms and social attitudes under the form of propaganda.

Example:
The deconstruction of wedding invitations starts from a celebratory or ritual position in the modern American society. If a government or group redefines the wedding as a pornographic function inside a group and reconstructs the wedding invitations as a form of pornography, then the wedding function transforms from a celebratory function into a derisory function worthy of criminal punishment and social exclusion. A group could also target, separate, and terminate the marriage under the guise of one member operating as a pornographer.

This method of structure plays an important role in the modern forms of sociological and political propaganda in society. The process appeared in the 1960's and continues into the contemporary period.
I observe many potential applications of this technique.
