Why does this savegame crash?
« on: April 09, 2015, 09:51:22 PM »
Hello forum,

the attached file "thirty-fourth.SAV" crashes at the beginning of the next round or during AI's turn. Can anyone explain to me why that happens?
Is there a solution?

I'm playing SMAC, the old cd-based version, full install on XP or in Wine.
I installed the game anew, applied the XP/2000 update, then scient's unofficial patch. Ctrl+F4 now reads VERSION 5.0, DATE 8 July 2002.

I also tried applying the version 4 patch, then XP/2000 update, then scient's patch. But that didn't stop the crash.

I get crash also.
Not sure, but vanila SMAC may have something that is not fixed, but works in expansion.
I loaded the save to kyrubs exe, but crashed also...

Sometime next week I can probably take a look.

Your problem is that UN-Soltempel somehow ended up with more than 8 items in its queue (presumably by something being inserted in the middle when there were already 8); remove one of them, and it won't crash.

Thank you so much. I would've never guessed that.

Can you also point me to a not-so-obvious way of doing so? Whenever I want to remove an object from Soltempel's build list and am therefore clicking on it, the game immediately freezes. So I'm afraid, that's not the way to correct that build list.

Is there an external savegame editor available?
Or will I have to load the last save before the crashing one?

Try to enter a base, some other base, then moving with arrows move to UN-Soltempel. It works for me.

I tested it by going to "change production", which then allows you to delete elements from the queue, and it didn't crash that way.

I got it by changing the Governor to another profile. That wiped out the complete production list without crashing.

Thank you, Guys.

Now I'll have to deal with that rising water level.

There's a shady solution for that. Just sayin'. ;zak;

Deirdre mentioned that. And it was accepted. But still I'll keep rising (or let the formers do so).

Former actions aren't affected by Planetary Council decisions. If it keeps rising after the current solar shade is enacted (I believe 20 turns after the proposal passed), propose a solar shade again the next time there's an opportunity.

When beholding the tranquil beauty and brilliancy of the ocean's skin, one forgets the tiger heart that pants beneath it; and would not willingly remember that this velvet paw but conceals a remorseless fang.
