Hehe fair enough, cheers. :) I've been doing XCOM and other old games for ages, but yeah currently hovering at only 300ish. I am terrible at promotion work. :D

I can't listen to ya now due to being at work D:

You have a relaxing voice, not too loud or annoying.

My voice, if you may have heard it in the Comrade's blurb is wheezy and gruff. When I get loud I just sound like I am taking a dump while trying to kill someone.

Thanks, but I think I had WAY too many umms and ahhs. I even had to have a beer because I was so incredibly nervous due to being live. Better equipment is also needed as the big guys can run a game like WoW at 100 FPS even with Fraps and they have professional editing software and damn good mics. That was done with a budget laptop running a dual core Celron B, a budget Logitech mic, and Windows Live movie maker. Still, 200+ views and it was only posted on twinkinfo and not major sites like MMOchampion, I think 200+ views is good for a test video. I did get a lot of feedback on twink info that they do like commentary as opposed to all thes guys (particularly in the world of MMO vids) of guys that blow all cooldowns and play loud metal music.

As far as your voice, you can get away with loud and gruffy. There are pundits on youtube known for that. I just grew up with too much NPR here in the US where the radio folks are very cerebral almost.

Kilk, you got to ne a member in good rep on forums for those games. I have actually seen your vids. I still say for classics like the alternate world Ultimas, thank God we do not have to deal with those horrible inventory systems.

Thanks for the advice, Green. :) I'll have to think about ways I can practically promote myself without being spammy. I think I did so well with Ultima 2 because I'm like 1 of the 2 ones available on YT and have corned the top results in search there.

Oh, and I love the TotalBiscuit approach. If you DO become big, do not neglect backwater sites. TotalBiscuit STILL does Starcraft 2 and is active on many obscure forums out of love and not money.

But, that dude has MUCH more drive for something like that than I do. I will be happy for now just posting forum AARs on this site. For those guys, Kilk, it is a second job and you are at the whim of Google and what they are willing to pay at whatever time. Some of these guys are complaining since Google adjusted money down because you no longer have to be a partner just press 'monetize", the money has gone down and some have had to get a job.

TB, Panser, Tradechat, et all do not spam forums. They post useful content.

I thought of making a youtube channel at one point, and my daughter could easily help me with it as she's an actual film artist, but I don't have the time/patience or money to buy all the good equipment and other things to start up a decent channel.

Edit: Kilkakon, what is your channel? I might watch it.

Nevermind I found it. Pretty professional channel if I may say so, didn't know you were Aussie. (Least I think that's an Aussie accent, I've watched Kikosika's channel before, among a few others.)

With Ultima, and MMOs in general, there is an ego trip with appearing old school and "leet". One of my complaints with MMOs is the ego trip. Hence, I post a lot on 4x boards for the more cerebral clientele. Exception: As much as folks HATE twinks, I love twink boards. very cool folks which is a rarity in MMOs. There is a market, not only with nostalgia because it is a game from childhood, but with folks preparing for Shroud of the Avatar.

Kilks channel is http://www.youtube.com/user/KonfluxGames

He is an old school gamer, not unlike many of us. Not a lot of views since most of his stuff is not the "new shiny" just released  stuff with forum rep that puts you ahead (think quill18 and Civ Fanatics and Civ 5). Still, he puts out more than I do...

Yeah. I wouldn't mind doing co commentary: I do have a Skype and a microphone and I've done a few streams some goofs have got me to do. So it is possible I can do that if anyone needs an Old Russian fart as a companion to speak with while doing a game or some other such thing.

Edit: Watching your terror from the deep playlist... and this is just silly, its damned hilarious!  ;lol

That accent stuff is pretty good. TB's whole gimmick is he is the "Ctnical Brit", British accent and all. (attitude to mach)

Now, in his early days on WOWradio, he did co-hosting over ventrilo, but vent and even teamspeak had issues with sound quality. But then again, folks are incredibly lenient towards beginners as long as the content is interesting. Because of those issues, he now only does solo.

I would say if you want views, go with a "new shiny" and be the first with within 24 hours of release. Be on forums of that game posting useful comments with the same username way before then. Myself if it is 4x would go for Triumph's Age of Wonders 3 which I think will be big. I would say Stardock's Legendary Heroes expansion, but that will be overcrowded a bit on top of Stardock's bad rep with War of magic. I would hit up Pandora right after release as well.

But, anyways back to chugging away at this AAR.

I love it that i am at a coffee shop that all I have to spend is 2 USD and get free refills for hours and very fast internet that beats the crappy cellular tether I use because i am cheap at the house. It is great Louisiana coffee. But not that Cafe du Monde crap all the New Orleans tourists get. Not only is the chickory really too overpowering in that coffee, Cafe du Monde is also WAY too rude to non-tourists because they have strict time limits on tables where they kick you out after 20 minutes no matter how much you spend. Yeah, there are good BEIGNETS, but I can go to Metarie's Morning Call and be treated better.

I think it is kind of ironic that I am surrounded by LSU college students on lunch dates, Baton Rouge businessmen discussing the latest deals, and folks surfing and talking on iphones while I am on another planet playing a religious nutcase who is fighting space communists, weird fungus/cyborg aliens, and talking to demon worshiping pokemon! If only they knew, I might be carried away in a straightjacket to the Louisiana mentally insane ward in Jackson, LA or Mandeville!

Anyways, we now (for the time being) have weapon parity with Antimind. Missile units are out!

Okay, Okay..

better not head to far north with that column that wiped out the Antimind units that took out Glory of God. Those needlejets will rip me apart.

I need to turn that column a tad bit south.

Goodness, that field of fungus is annoying with all those mind worms.

Remember early, I lost a bunch of early troops to that field.

I am thinking with all the battles and all the blood spilled in that fungus, I should name that landmark.

Done.

That IS one bloody field, too.

Makes me wish they had Civ 5's archeology feature. Imagine 100 to 200 turns from now the early planet history of that field. The Lawyer/ Comrade/ Native Life battles. The Antimind/ Believer pushes. yes indeed.

Drone riots at Court Records. Makes sense. I have been pumping and pumping military there and not really paying attention to the needs of the flock. Miriam does understand that years of living on edge, losing family members, and the constant very real fear that the Antimind will come through and eat everyone makes people uneasy. I have mercy and will not nerve staple them. Instead I send ministers (doctors) to soothe the public. I will try to concentrate on rec commons and such in a bit.

That little Unity Scout chopper has been instrumental in the victories at the Field of Blood. The Antimind troop movements have been given away where I can plan defenses. i have not really used its SAM ability versus the needlejets, though. I have been sending that thing out constantly and since it only has a move of 8, it is constantly taking damage.

Alright. Since some of the heat is off, I turn my attention to the Comrades.

I have two missile foils out and a foil probe team. The probe team takes out a defending probe team and will move to steal tech next turn.

A small scale invasion of that island may be in order eventually since the Merchant Exchange is there. But, we shall see.

Formers are moving in to repair some damage from all the offshore bombardment New Jerusalem has been taking.

I know I should probably be popping remote pods way out there, but Unity Transport Foils only have 1 cargo and it is carrying a Unity Rover. I think a great idea is to go behind Antimind lines on a suicide mission and take out as many improvements as I can to affect production.

It will be fun till the needlejets show up.
