It's a miracle from where I'm standing   :)

Internet connection still horribly variable and the forum keeps refusing to let me post the game file because it's taking too long to upload. So am trying with a zip file, sorry for the inconvenience but it is *much* smaller!

A general question: why do everybody prefer to play with SMAX than SMAC, even when we have the original 7 factions?
It doesn't add anything in my eye.
- SPs: the only one I like is the Planetary Energy grid. The Manifolds Harmonics is too far away on the tech tree and the Cloudbase Academy is so despised that it got banned every game.
- native life: spore launchers are usable, fungal towers are a pain and the naval one arrives too late
- unit improvements: people say that native life loses power as the game progress but SMAX gives 3-res and 8-res armor and 6-res laser which reduces even more its relevance.

So, I can understand someone wanting to play the Cyborgs/Pirates/Cult & co but why SMAX here?

Well, first and foremost, I want to be able to tab out of smac/x while playing. With Yitzi's patch thats no problem in SMAX, but in SMAC I have no chance to tab out of the game.
Also other Pracx-stuff I like to use, zooming, showing ressource yields on map and all that.
also:
- I like to be able to change the order of the factions, or occasionally mix SMAX-ones in.
- When setting up a game you simply get an easier overview about faction-bonuses when using SMAX.
- I like pulse/resonance armor/weapons.
- Yeah, planetary energy grid is great.

There may be other things, but these are the first ones I can think of.

Strange thing is, you can get out of SMAC when you have two monitors by clicking somewhere in the 2nd. Otherwise the lock-in is actually really annoying.

Vishniac, I am pretty much a SMAC purist, in any case, so I cannot justify SMAX. I think the only thing it added which I like is the new landmarks, which just spice things up a little. Otherwise it just feels shoddy. BUT! I am more than happy to play it if other people want to. I just gnash my teeth and shout at clouds like an well-adjusted adult, when doing so ;)

In the years since our arrival, we have foolishly disrupted so many of Planet's ecosystems that entire species may vanish without our ever having understood, or even known them. We must halt this plunder, and halt it immediately, for our own survival as a species depends on our ability to strike a balance on this world.
