To this day, that whole part of the movie is enough to give me nightmares. I was in high school when I saw the Planet of the Apes movies - around the time when we were doing a lot of dystopian, post-apocalyptic stuff in English, AND the Cold War was still going, AND Ronald Reagan just couldn't keep his mouth shut about bombing the Soviet Union and "fighting a limited nuclear war over Europe" (I always wondered what he thought the Europeans would have to say about that...).

Pennsylvania lawyer's ad starring smiling thugs draws criticism
Reuters
By Elizabeth Daley March 7, 2014 5:17 PM
PITTSBURGH (Reuters) - A Pittsburgh lawyer's online ad showing smiling robbers, drug dealers and prostitutes flashing thumbs up and thanking him for getting them off the hook has garnered tens of thousands of views and drawn fire from a local bar association.
One fictional criminal pauses while climbing out a window, carrying a laptop to say "Thanks Dan," to the camera, while a pair of men carrying handguns offer a similar message before pulling ski masks over their faces in the three-minute, 27-second ad posted on YouTube by criminal defense attorney Daniel Muessig.
Muessig, a 2012 University of Pittsburgh Law School graduate, then makes his own pitch: "Trust me, I may have a law degree, but I think like a criminal."
The spot has been viewed more than 80,000 times since Muessig posted it on Thursday, and the 32-year-old attorney said he believed the tongue-in-cheek approach would appeal to possible clients.
"I wanted to connect with my potential clients in a way that people from my generation could understand," Muessig said in a Friday phone interview. "I wanted to give people something that would be memorable and entertaining."
Tom Loftus, spokesman for the Allegheny County Bar Association, said he found the ad "insulting to Pittsburgh lawyers and lawyers across the country, who take great pride in their profession."
He said he worried that the video could be misinterpreted: "There could be kids watching it, or people who don't even understand what tongue-in-cheek means, and what they'll see is: if you commit a crime this attorney will get you off without any explanation."
Muessig defended the spot but said he would take it down if law enforcement or a legal professional organization asked him to.
"It's a send-up of the cartoonishly amoral Jewish criminal defense attorney," he said. "The criminal justice system is broken, it creates a system where we are basically putting people on a conveyor belt to prison. If you want to get your ire up, get your ire up about that."

"The criminal justice system is broken, it creates a system where we are basically putting people on a conveyor belt to prison. If you want to get your ire up, get your ire up about that."
If accused criminals have a right to an attorney, and nobody is willing to defend them, how will the courts ever clear their cases?
Somebody's got to do it.
I thought it was funny. People are confused because it's a tv ad, and on tv the good guys always win the criminal cases.

I went on the San Diego Animal Park Cheetah safari once.
http://sdzsafaripark.org/safaritickets/cheetah_safari.html (http://sdzsafaripark.org/safaritickets/cheetah_safari.html)
It's amazing. Not just the top speed of the Cheetah, but the acceleration. If I recall correctly, they said it went from sitting to 40 mph in three steps. It was a now you see it, now you don't, did that just happen?, experience when viewed from the side.
The campanion dog keeps the normally nervous cheetah calm around humans.
The dog ran first, then the Cheetah at reduced speed, then the dog again ( which seemed comical at that point), then the Cheetah at about 60mph. The Cheetah gets overheated sprinting, so depending on the heat of the day, etc, the keepers try not to over-exert it.
Actually, most animals overheat when they run. Only humans, canines, camelids, and equines are good at shedding heat and running distances.
-

And small surprise then all four of those species became domesticated.
So, cats overheat too? Outside season I mean? :D

Fish overheat? ;cute
Yes.
Though they shed their heat to the water real quick and all, they CAN overheat if that water gets too close to the species' preferred body temp and thus can't cool them off as well.
Aquarium basics. At least out here in the desert where it's easy for a tank or pond to overheat, most people actually have to heat their aquariums, but some of us have to pay attention to cooling them in the summer.
-

I was only speaking of animals in the mammal sense. I don't have Uno's experience, but what little I've seen from ponds and fountains, fish are very sensitive to temperature.
And small surprise then all four of those species became domesticated.
So, cats overheat too? Outside season I mean? :D
:D . Yes. They are great in a pounce, sprint or quick fight. Getting the heart rate up creates heat. So they rest. Tigers swim. Lions rest over 20 hours/day. Maybe that's why cats in general like to hunt at night, or close to it.
Those other animals I mentioned tend to trot. A wolf follows the herd until he catches his dinner. A guy who was a runner told me he once followed a deer until he touched it's nose. The deer could easily out-sprint him, but it eventually over heated and tired, he didn't.
Bloody heck, $50 to see that cheetah run??! ;eek
Well, it's cheaper for me to go to California than it is to go to Africa, and I don't run the risk of malaria, or mambas. Besides, the cheetah run is a sure thing. I spent a lot more on a whale watch once, and only glimpsed a pair of porpoises before the weather turned bad, and all I saw the rest of the trip was the inside of the boat.
-
No refund policy or free next trip in the USA if the "advertized species" doesn't turn up? ;eek
Please don't tell me that was in Hawaii.

You need reading lessons.
He's saying it's cheaper to stay in the states and get a guaranteed view of specified animal than it is to go on safari in Africa and maybe see something.
I don't particularly agree with his assessment, mind you. Dogs/wolves are not particularly great at shedding heat, they don't have any evolutionary advantage over cats in that way, they both only have the pads of their feet and their mouths for shedding heat. A pack of wolves is not particularly different than a pride of lions in hunting. You want to quote lion down time, put those wolves in the african heat and see what the down time is. Hyena's share similar activity patterns to lions for a reason. Group hunting is what it is. You follow, tire the herd, pick off the weak.
The cheetah is an ambush predator, and can't really get compared to dogs.
I don't buy the runner's version of the deer encounter, either, frankly. Fight or Flight...The deer in question would have eventually chosen fight...I call BS.
Now, humans and horses evolved a better ability to sweat, which makes us better at shedding heat, yes. I can't speak too intelligently on camels.
-

Good point. There doesn't seem to be much of a difference in kind between the heat shedding abilities of canines and felines.. What if the biggest difference is scale? More mass, more heat . Cape hunting dogs do just fine hunting in the heat of the day.
-

Not really, since my response was for Rusty's whale excursion. But I could've made the effort to quote only that part. Not that easy with a tablet's virtual "keyboard" though.

They seem more build for walking long hauls. And of course have the ability to store a large amount of water. Maybe they can use that for cooling purposes.
-

Sorry, misunderstanding there. The whale tour advertisements I've seen do guarantee sightings or money back. Problem is what defines a sighting, probably. Good point. I think the biggest differences are due to environment and the fact most cats are ambush/solitary predators. Yeah, lions and a couple others (mostly small species) form prides, but largely, cats are solitary. This calls for different strategies.
In the case of your Cape Hunting dogs, pack size is an important factor. Hunting groups of 20 are common today, much larger than a lion pride or wolf pack hunting party (which are lucky to get half a dozen), and it is assumed pack sizes were much larger prior to being endangered. This size distributes the exertion over a larger group.

Bipedal tactics aren't so effective against a tri-pod. ;)
I understand that is the ritual combat over breeding rights for Kangaroos. It looks kind of silly, ( but then again, so do bluff charges by gorillas, head butting by hoofed animals, etc. ) but they have the ability to gut when they use the claws on their hind legs, or rupture spleens, bruise livers, and kill when they apply enough blunt force. So it's kind of a gradual escalation, until one declines to continue... or is unable.

On another note; this made me laugh too. Combination of the music and how stupidly short it is.

I can't help but point out this is a remix of the background music of an old online browser game called "Orange Drop" or something like that.
You know those websites that have a bunch of flash games? I used to go on them occasionally. That was probably my first experience with gaming.

I'm glad we don't have strict rules about replying to old stuff.
I will say they got some things right.
We can have whatever temperature we want through science. AC is a necessity where I live.
And skirts are seen less often than shorts down here.
Containers for stuff - Well, I'm assuming they had pockets when that was made, but we have those.

Beneath the Planet of the Apes was one of the most disturbing and scary things I saw as a small child. (So this one's for Uno, for more than one reason.)
As an adult, I think the mutant worship service is one of the most drolly-funny things I've seen in my entire life. -Also, Nova even looked hot clean and wearing clothes.
Hail The Bomb - "Beneath The Planet Of The Apes" (1970) - Leonard Rosenman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWPvKxSA7nw#)
If anyone can track down the entire actual mutant worship service scene, preferably on You Tube so it can be embedded here, I'd be grateful, because I think it's one of the very best things in the history of ever.
I bet it won't stay up long, but this seems to be the whole movie. The mutant worship service begins at 106:12.
