You examine the room and there is a plain set of breeches and a shirt, there is also a torch, and a lantern.  They are on the ground.  the walls floors and ceiling are otherwise nondescript stone.

Whatcha gonna do?

You see dozens of black beetles scurrying around, there is a small crack in the rock overhead that is allowing light in, you appear to be hundreds of feet down from any ledges.  You step on a beetle <CRUNCH> and they all go down a pathway to your left.  There is also a path to the right.  You hear the same skittering down the left as before.  There is a skeleton on the floor here, looks like it could be another adventurer.

examine bones of skeleton for any wound markers, signs of disease, and determine estimate of length the skeleton has been there.

Well that's really odd.  Even allowing fossil record, it's impossible such large beetles would survive underground in their adult state, and if they DID somehow come up with enough oxygen to get this big, they would neccessarily need to be herbivorous to manage the energy needed to move, then we've got the whole body temperature problem...

You're a mighty warrior and quickly use the hammer to make super fun Gallagher-esque beetle paste.  Also being a mighty warrior, you squash the scientifical thinkings and squash more beetles until there is no more beetle to turn into paste.

B - Wait to see what develops.
C - Look around for Alcohol

Vague thoughts swirl around about beetle shells being chitin, it's many uses, and something about urine not only being able to clean it off, but also working as a natural pesticide that would keep further beetles well away, but they are quickly crushed by a pounding headache so I resolve to look for alcohol.  ;)
