Title: New member needs help with downloads
Post by: Ajantaka on September 16, 2013, 01:27:03 AM
Hello all,

I am not a new player - got the game the year it came out - but I am new to this forum.  Am trying to download the Netload Node Factions but I can't find any button or anything on that page that actually says 'download' or start download.  What am I missing?  Thanks for any help.

Welcome to AC2 forum! While you are here, don't be afraid to poke your head around to other custom factions made by myself, Sigma or others.

No worries  on being new, questions are welcome. All you have to do is just click the NetworkNodeFactions.7z, which is in the middle of the screen, then a small box should appear for a zipped file. Open it/save it, and then all you got to do is import its contents into the appropriate folder, one with all your game files.

Hello again,  I am still stumbling along.  I am playing Crossfire.  I downloaded the Kingdom of the Cartel faction and installed it into Alpha Centauri.  But when I go to play it is not offered as a choice in the list of factions.  I installed it into the general Alpha Centauri file.  Does it go into a specific file?  All help appreciated.  Thanks

You have to add it to the list of factions.  Go to alphax.txt and scroll down to #CUSTOMFACTIONS, and add the appropriate line (like the lines above it, it's the faction filename, followed by a comma, followed by the faction filename again, with a blank line between it and the #MANDATE entry.)

Another way to do it, is to go into faceeditor in your files, and simply select "LOAD FACTION" and then type in the name of the faction in the finder.

But be warned: do NOT save the faction. Merely load it.

Got it!  Thanks all.  You might want to put this information on the page with the downloads for the succor of technological simpletons like me; I would never have figured it out on my own.

I am still having trouble with this.  I put the factions names into alphax file correctly and in right place.  Some custom factions (the Church and the Huxley one) then appear on the game list and will play.  Some (the Union and Armada Confederacy) don't.  Any suggestions?

Thanks

If you provide your alphax.txt file, that might help figure out what's going on.
