Title: Running Green
Post by: Droom on September 10, 2013, 04:39:34 PM
Hi,

I'm using Kyrub's patch. I've been playing The Cult on a large planet with abundant life, weak erosion, dense cloud. I'm running Democracy, Green (Planet rating +4), and Knowledge. Perihelion has just ended.
Questions:
1. In the Prima guide, it states: "as long as your PLANET value is at least 3, there is no chance of ecological damage."
However, my highest producing bases still show eco damage. Which is correct?
2. Running Green seems to speed up forest and kelp growth (alot). I've play tested this by comparing Green to Planned and have been able to see the difference, I cannot find this feature in any documentation. Can anyone else confirm this?

Thx

I'd say the Prima guide is wrong about that.  Nothing eliminates ecodamage completely except raising you faction's threshold higher than any of your bases can produce.

Welcome aboard, Droom! To answer your questions:

1. It's been a long time since I had PLANET >2, but I'm quite sure it doesn't erase ED, only reduces it for bases already above the clean min threshold (which in fact is not affected by PLANET SE). More info at:

2. I haven't tested it, but I believe the forest growth is not affected by PLANET or Green.

Compare also:

A bit of useful info - if you want to help forest grow, terraform it in checkers, not patches. The gaps will be quickly filled.

A side question to somebody: how you do this thing that a link is hidden under the hypertext, not directly as above? There is the option "insert url", but it provides space only for the url and not the hypertext. This bugs me a bit sometimes.

Do you mean the link/hypertext below?

http://apolyton.net/content.php/708-Column-175-SMACX-ECO-DAMAGE-FORMULA-REVISED1 (http://apolyton.net/content.php/708-Column-175-SMACX-ECO-DAMAGE-FORMULA-REVISED1)

For testing purposes (http://apolyton.net/content.php/708-Column-175-SMACX-ECO-DAMAGE-FORMULA-REVISED1)

Just replace the link between the brackets ]...[/url] to your text.

-And add an '=' after 'url' before you paste in the link.

Yeah, that was the missing part. I knew it must be something simple but couldn't find it. ;) Cheers!

"Why would you run Green anyways, blasted hippies now a days... "

JarWolf

Because I'm having fun!

I just wanted to try to take full advantage of +2 planet. With Democracy, Green, and Knowledge, my Economy is +5. 100% of my econ goes to research and I make my energy killing native life.

I think your Jarl senses aren't tingling. I be joking then  ;lol

(I actually use green during native life perihelion or if I am playing a faction that has penalties to planned/likewise with efficiency.)

Yea hey, man, like I dig. Green is groovy.

I grew up in the hippie capital of Canada, Victoria. I was a professional musician until the mid-seventies. Then, the Viet Nam war ended and everyone went home and old hippies found other things to do. I traded in my guitar for a suit and tie.

I've never created a faction, but you've certainly given me the idea of a Hippie Faction. The script could be hilarious. BTW. right now I'm watching a show about the  Polynesians. Another great idea for a faction.

Semi-seriously, last night I play tested my game again, "If Planned - no forest expand; if Green - kelp is seen."
Is it possible that Kyrub's patch made this happen? I dunno. I'm going to test it using Vanilla.

I'm going to start a new game as Cha Dawn with standard rules, as my settings make it too easy.

I see I made an error in the above post. I should have said my Efficiency is +5, not my Economy.

As an obvious tip to myself: If you are running Cha Dawn on Green, never destroy the fungal towers unless you are desperate for $ or are planning to colonize.

BTW, gimme some ec so my avatar can be this:

Prima has loads of errors, but the green and forest/kelp expansion thing is interesting. Perhaps you could run a few larger tests and see if you can find a consistent difference in expansion speeds on same land at different Planet ratings?

Yea BU, whenever I think of an idea, someone has already thought of it.

Would you mind killing my creative spirit by telling me that " The Polynesian" faction idea has already been done?

BTW: You look better without a beard.

I don't remember a Polynesian faction.
