Title: We need an AAR subforum or related.
Post by: JarlWolf on August 30, 2013, 08:08:33 AM
We have enough AAR's to shake a monkey poo smothered stick at, and enough interest in them that a small cult could develop from how many AAR's and readers we receive. I'd like to petition for an AAR subforum, possibly going under a subforum of the Planet Tales or Theory of everything: We could split it up between story based AAR's and gameplay if need be. Or have its own little subforum in general.

I'm kinda a fan of having content together for easy access, rather than needing to check lots of subforums to stay up to date, and TOE is not super active if you take out the AARs.

Yes but as it currently stands AAR's are all over the place and some of them sink and are forgotten, Even if this sub forum was a place where completed AAR's were moved, that would be much better as it currently stands.

It'd be great to have them in the same forum but at the same time have an option to sort threads so you can see just AARs, like I set up with tagging on this forum: http://pokemon-online.eu/forums/forum.php (http://pokemon-online.eu/forums/forum.php) (look at the teams forum, try the forum and the links in the forum description). That way we'd have best of both worlds?

I am open to doing something - we've talked about where AARs should go before and not come to any conclusion.  So I'm inclined to wait for more input, but I'm leaning towards the let 'em go where the author chooses, then archive them when done in an AAR folder.

Speak up, y'all.

It is like I have been saying for many months. MANY readers come only for AARs. I have always thought AARs should get it's own flora. Not just because I crave any attention, either. It is just easier for folks to locate if that is what they are looking for. Much like Command Nexus is the go to for MP and Theory of Everything is for our fanatic obsessive compulsive analysis and discussion.

I rather fancy just putting it on the root directory.  It only takes a minute to add a folder, and if sisko doesn't speak up to the contrary, I will probably do so tomorrow.

It would be great to hear from Dio on this, too...

Well we need something for it, we have loads of AAR's scattered everywhere, and it'd be nice for folks to have a nice simple AAR related forum of it's own. MP has one, Modding has one, Fan fiction has one, and discussion has one. Why not have one for AAR's which is essentially gameplay, story and discussion altogether? Even if it's just a little subforum where finished AAR's are moved after they have completed/finished/been abandoned, it'd be nice for people to look at them so they don't have to dig through several pages, topics just to find AAR's.

That's my two salts on it at least. We need something and we need it now, as the community's demand for AAR's is only going to grow and we need to build the hab complex to accommodate it.

Okay, I'm sold.  Let's see if sisko has anything to say in a few hours.

Not sure what kind of relationship you have with Sisko, but when I was main mod of a board of this size (a 300 member World of Warcraft guild that had visits from folks all over that server), the admin let me do pretty  much what I pleased as far as forum arrangement.

I could also do pretty much what I pleased (within reason) for the other projects I was involved in.

Adding a new flora does not seem like a major thing.

Now, you start replacing the banner with space pen0rs and My Little Pony, yeah... Sisko may call you into the office.

Actually, I am now co-owner.  This is the sort of thing I prefer to get his input on - I even put into my partnership offer that he wins ties, because I am often a gambler, and I should have to talk the cautious partner into anything risky, for instance.

I will go make that forum now.  Moving stuff will have to wait until my nerves settle, though.

Done.  Go have a party, SUPahvillain.

Awesome. I plan on drinking a beer tonite as a reward for surviving laundry day. MOAR Morgan and AAR posting probably is in order, too. We shall see.

Imagine: 2 weeks of clothes, a bag that insists on tearing apart, scorching hot and humid weather, 2-3 miles with no shade, and a mountain bike. My cargo bicycle ran over a bunch of roofing nails and the tires for it are expensive. Hence having to use my "spare" bicycle which is totally unsuited for the task.

I am in favor of forming a forum for AAR's. Although it is kind of late for me to put in my opinion.

I'm bored.  Somebody compile me a list of links, and I'll get to work - I believe everyone but t_ras has weighed in, and I know he won't mind, and the rest of you have consented to moving in advance, IMO.

Okay, I also found an old Tarvok thread that ended up never happening, and left one old newb "What is an AAR" thread alone.  I think I got everything else.  Maybe.  Do check behind me - my brain is on half-power today.

I want this folder to be what you want, so don't be shy.

I figured out how to award people, and AARs badges have been passed to everyone whose AAR turned into a real thing, I think.  I need to have another look at t_ras'.

If someone made a top-notch Welcome thread talking about what AARs are and maybe different styles - or AARghs can each post about their own style - I would sticky...

I say that to my favorites, and okay, I do have a lot - but you're one of them.  That was a very good thread, and brought the funny.

BUncle: I really appreciate you making that forum, you've done the community a needed service, it's so much easier to read peoples work now. I have just found New Age of Power's AAR and I am enjoying these oldies.

NewAge does some insane ICS/crawler Zak stuff. It is so cheesy, but insane.
