Title: Looking for a fellow Mac IP gamer
Post by: 551262 on August 28, 2013, 09:56:16 PM
I'm running the default install of SMAC that comes on the Mac version from Firaxis with no patches. I do have no problem running a patched/revised version though, just let me know what has changed  :D

Who wants to join me? I say me as Believers and you as University and we'll be pacted together against five AI factions on Transcend difficulty. Probably Map of Planet, standard size.

We'll probably have to figure out some what of landing on the same continent. We can talk about which one we want for sure, each continent has certain advantages:

1) The one with the Freshwater Sea is good for SSCs and has the Ruins for sending units to be upgraded to Elite.
2) The one with the Garland Crater has that and the Uranium Flats.
3) The one with the Monsoon Jungle is good and roomy, and has the Upland Wastes with some high elevation.

Who wishes to try an IP game with me? First time MP player, "okay" against the A.I.

Thank you for the reply, but I don't use Facebook. I would like to say I never have but since then I also never will.

Updating:

Can't play IP game in OS X. It says it needs Netsprocket 1.7 "or later". I looked and looked well and all I can say is good luck. I can play it under OS 9 though, *ahem*, but I'm not quite ready for that (and apparently nobody else is).

I won't have the patience for PBEM, but I suppose I could try it. Small map, definitely, or tiny. I hate long protracted games.

RE: vyeh -- he hasn't been active on 'poly for two years.

Try to install the program -Vmware fusion, I think it will solve the problem

I don't have VMWare Fusion. Never have and most likely never will. heh Also I don't have the PC version, so I'm not sure what that would do (and this Mac mini has XP on it, as does my Compaq E500, as does another computer of mine).

SMAC and SMAC-X don't work too well under 10.5. (I don't have anything above 10.5.) I play SMAC under 10.4.11, under the Rosetta emulation the saving of games can crash.

Also I tried playing it under OS 9, but the so-called "live music" (which responds to gameplay activity) is something that doesn't work. Neither under OS X either.

(I sure wish those clowns at  would have made the Mac mini G4 OS 9 and OS X 10.2.8 compatible.)

RE: vyeh -- yeah I found his profile there. *sigh* Another forum to sign up for

Sorry.  Have a custom user title as compensation - I'll change it if you've got a better idea.

Can you install on your comp virtualBox? My comp is Linux, so I work with a XP VirtualBox to play SMAC/X.
If so I tihnk it is (in my opinion) OK to download SMAC/X for PC if you have it for MAC.
