Title: problems/bug using custom factions

playing using custom factions i've detected a kind of bug when i load and reload the same or other savegame about one or more match in progress. It always happen the custom faction i use (with or without all 8 limited bonus) self-develope +1 PLANET. It seem a conflict with the basic example custom faction Gaians. I try all combinations, put in progress just one match, make the factions with his 8 bonus limited but it happen again. Anyone have any idea? Having said i play with SMACX us version, last patch 2.0 and the no cd ''crack'' (but is not a crack) i had downloaded years ago from this site http://alphacentauri.us (http://alphacentauri.us) (i've recently look some links are now unavaible)

This sounded a little like the faction graphics bug at first, but you mention bonuses - could you explain more?

sorry comunication is not my strong point (you know uncle) ... i must discover ProgPsy yet ... i retry:

When i load and reload a savegame, where i'm using a custom faction (versus other customs) it happen somethimes i found +1PLANET in social engeneering so if the faction has 0 this value change in +1, if the faction has +1 planet this value change in +2, ... often it happen when i load and reload more times a savegame in the same ''opened game interface'' but last time i found this wrong parameter in a savegame so i don't know exactly how and why it exit ... it's try to happen also when I start a new game some times with the custom faction, for example because i don't like the type of planet (in general i use scan planet view), i go in social engeneering and i found the wrong parameter. The unusual thing but stable is +1PLANET, for this reason i thinked this bug could derive from gaian which is the 'example custom faction'. I hope now it's more clear

So when loading the game, it sometimes increases your PLANET rating by 1 when using custom factions?  Very strange...if you can provide a savegame where it happens, that may help either me or scient figure out what's going on.

yes Yitzi, next i provide a savegame where it happens, i must add custom factions files or you can read just into .sav?? it may not occur when loaded on an other installation of the game, so i'm going to know if the problem resides in my game, but as i said i have anything strange on my game istallation

The savegame should have the custom faction settings - they'll look Gaian, but should work as they do for you, I believe.

Whoever's doing it* is probably going to have to read the .sav anyway to figure what's going on, but you might as well provide the .txt file for the custom faction as well.

*I'm currently working on my next version of the patch, so me doing it might wait until after that, in which case Scient might get to it first.

If it is your installation only, that'll be easy to find, at least.

Gaian must be the default faction.

hi friends, here the savegame and txts of my custom factions. The parameters of the custom faction run correctly at the start of the game. Already i've detected the bug (+1 PLANET) i save the game.

It should be as simple as [Prt Scr], hit the Windows key to escape the game while it's still running, and paste into Paint.

It should be as simple as [Prt Scr], hit the Windows key to escape the game while it's still running, and paste into Paint.

Except that because of the way the game uses graphics, it gets a bit weird: If you open Paint after starting the game, the colors will be off, and if you open it before then usually it works ok but sometimes you get something like what he just posted.

before to create this topic, i had tried to serach +1 planet on google to understand why this value increased but keyword remind me in inconsistent results
with 'manifold nexus' as search keyword, suggest me by Nexii, i've can find on other forum the same question so to completed-ended the discussion i add here what i read yesterday night and i forgot to mention, certainly not for you friends but for somebody like me who didn't know this patch updating


about manifold nexus: the player whose territory includes the central tile of the Manifold Nexus gets the benefit. That could lead to some strange situations; two neighbours might repeatedly gain and lose it as a consequence of building additional bases close to the border, or one might get +1 Planet without ever having discovered it. The tile cannot be submerged, and maybe it cannot be raised either.  If playing an alien faction +1 research also.

I can help you on that if you need be. I understand the difficulty with writing English, English is not my first language either. I'll see what I can do.


Edit: I just need to know the gist, or idea of the factions and then I can write appropriately matching names for bases and stuff.
