Title: Base founded on borehole
Post by: Buster's Uncle on April 05, 2013, 05:07:19 AM
Now, I was expecting this one to crash the game.  I'm currently playing a game with random opponents - and since I, naturally, have a bunch of custom factions installed, one of them pulled something I didn't think was possible; founding a base on a borehole, one that was being crawled by me at the time!

It's not a polar square issue - it wasn't quite on the pole row, and the game doesn't deal with that in degrees.  If it's an issue with the custom faction ... I don't know how that could be possible.

I got rid of it by moving the crawler out and hitting it with the old "Release mindworm into the wild" trick.  The third screeny attached is two turns after, when I'd cleared it out, just to give a sense of the wide view - it was set up like that when the base was founded, except for the crawler working the borehole.

scient, the savegame is after it was cleared.  I'll attach the autosaves for the turn before and during with the next post.

Autosave 4.sav is the turn before the base was founded; note the colony pod in the square with the crawler.

Autosave 3.sav is during.

Just in case you need it for testing, here's the faction: http://www.hickorychessclub.org/MyWorms.zip (http://www.hickorychessclub.org/MyWorms.zip)

Well, I'll be John Browned - I tested, and at least in this game, you can found a base on a borehole.

I did not know that.

I thought to try it on a borehole well away from a pole on the next turn, so it's not that.

(Incidentally, I have the Natives in a submission pact, so nothing remarkable about them getting into the same square as my crawler.  Interestingly enough, the crawler in question went from crawling nine energy a turn [the home base has several energy bonus SPs, and all the borehole in question have rivers for an extra energy] to registering as convoying energy to the Native base - until I moved it away.

The Natives had a second colony pod nearby when the original incident happened, but fungusing up the borehole square has prevented it happening again.)

just an fyi: the whole zig-zag at the north (rows 0 and 1) are polar squares; the same at the south pole. Things are weirder there than at the center of the ruins.

I'm pretty sure that it's row zero that has all the glitchiness.  You can see the difference in the base screen in the double-dipping thread.

I've eliminated another possibility - I was able to found a base on a borehole without a river.
