Title: Iniswap - testing 2.2 version
Post by: Mart on January 27, 2013, 01:15:13 PM
Hi,

I just downloaded next version of Iniswap, ver. 2.2
The earlier from today 2.1 does not work ok, it will probably mess Alpha Centauri.ini

When testing Iniswap, please backup your settings by copying Alpha Centauri.ini before iniswap use, to some other location, or copying-renaming.

In 2.2 I placed safety code in order to prevent overwriting ini file, when there are problems.

Iniswap solves problem of faction graphics bug.
For SMAC there was only 7 factions, but when smax came, problem started, since game did not record faction files names. Faction parameters are ok, they are recorded, but as for graphics, game uses ini file entries, which sometimes do not represent correctly the set of factions a player plays. Iniswap gives you opportunity to easier manipulate these ini file entries.

BU, can I ask you to remove version 2.1 from downloads? It is not working ok, and some people may have difficulties... :)

I have always used your Iniswap, it's a great tool. Will this new version just use my current 'Iniswap' folder or do I have to add the files again by hand?

Version 2.2 is intended as beta for final Iniswap ver. 3. It works differently, changing only ini file entries for factions. It requires a bit more algorithm than only coppying file (as it is in ver. 2.0)
The version 2.2 works with a new folder "iniswap3" and yes, you would have to add your settings to a new txt file. After installation (or actually the first use), there is only standard set and new set from alien crossfire. But if you take a look in that file, it should be easy to add new sets. There is one line intro, then 9 lines per set: stars, name of a set, and 7 lines with faction names, as required in ini file. And as before, you can from iniswap add current set from ini file.

However, I used in version 2.2 "system" command for launching the game. In ver. 2.3 it will be shellexecuteEx, it works better. So the ver. 2.2 use only to swap faction sets. Game will not launch when you do not select any exe.
