Title: Awards for content contributors
Post by: sisko on October 22, 2012, 07:32:39 AM
I say we give away badges for content contributors too:
- AAR writers;
- fiction writers;
- modders once they submit download entries.
What do you say?

Also, the users that have such a badge will be called "content writers" and will have their own membergroup, maybe even a hidden forum... "content writers guild"

ok. once we have the icons ready, we should make an announcement in the 'Council Room'

for fiction writers, something along the lines of the old 'Poly icon for Writer's Guild (IIRC the name)

I'll see what I can do.  I need to go do that follow-up PM to GB at CFC before I forget, then I'll get on making you some badges.

Well, I never did find Jarl that last aquatic faction - I don't love these day where I worked the whole time and have little to show for it.  I'll see what I can do on badges tomorrow.

I'll look for that now.  You had something for me in Council Room -to do with quizzes?  Anything else?

I've saved the quiz shot - if it looks any good at 20x, it won't be much trouble.  What we've got for AARs is a Let's Play tag - I'm going to try to make something with the letters AAR.

We should discuss this publically in Council instead, shouldn't we?

I think this is getting close.  They look really big to me as attachments, but 20x is not a lot of pixels to work with...

I think 6 wins, and I don't want to obsessively tinker all day.

I think is good enough, and the size fits. I like it.

i can't read the AAR but, maybe it's just me, as my eyes are tired right now.

for the "Q" with a pencil, what should be the name: quiz maker / quiz creator / quiz author ? which one sounds better?
Title: Re: Awards for content contributors

Quiz Maker, I think.
Title: Re: Awards for content contributors

the horizontal line should be thicker, so maybe you should drop the up and down arrows..

or replacing everything with a diagonal arrow pointing up if you can add the text in that direction..
Title: Re: Awards for content contributors

It's the white not showing well against the background, I think.  20x isn't a lot of pixels to work with.

I've been thinking about it, but never gotten round to it. Actually, I think that you (BU) are more likely to have a proof-read and edited version of the War Crimes II story.

Kil?  I can't think of anyone else active here who's released a complete one.

Any ideas about the badge?  I already did a Tristan head that we didn't use, and that would maybe be perfect for him.  That, or something with the letters L&E in the style of his LE logo, which wouldn't be redundant with his avatar...

We will defintely hook Maniac the heck up if I can ever talk him into sticking his head in, yes.  One of us needs to break down and put up SMAniaC in Downloads eight months ago when I got his permission...

I'll get on that LE badge now.  No guarantee that it'll look good so small - I may have to go wider than 20.

Yes.

Yes there should.

Any ideas what it ought to look like?  I'll start work right this minute if you throw me a good enough idea/description and maybe a picture to work with.

Something on the God, or worshipped, theme?
Title: Re: Awards for content contributors
Post by: Yitzi on November 07, 2012, 11:33:15 PM
Better not...while some people would appreciate being worshipped, many more religious people (such as myself) most certainly would not.

I am quite certain, however, that Sinder Roze should feature in it.

Beyond that, I don't really know; as I may have mentioned before, however, art is my weak point.
Title: Re: Awards for content contributors
Post by: Buster's Uncle on November 07, 2012, 11:35:10 PM
Roze isn't a bad idea - and easy for me because that's already a smilie at about the size we want.  Think the redundancy would be a problem?
Title: Re: Awards for content contributors

Not if Roze is only part of the badge, and not the whole thing.  (No idea what the other part would be.)

Looks good for a start, but for such a major accomplishment, I'd say you might want something flashier, maybe even animated.  Something that says "this is special even for a badge."
Title: Re: Awards for content contributors
Post by: Buster's Uncle on November 08, 2012, 12:25:15 AM
Animated is not a big deal - I can do that.  Ideas for that?  It's already better-looking than my usual, I think.

Title: Re: Awards for content contributors

It's a self-indulgent use of a faction leader I made for the Platinum release (who I happened to have handy in a backgroundless copy, which saved a lot of work). [shrugs] If people, especially Maniac, think someone like the Bree would be more representative, I can do that...

That picture is more the "infiltration" aspect than the "computer experts" aspect, so it wouldn't really do.  I was thinking more something like the on-the-map unit picture.

I am thinking another award could be for custom factions makers/contributors: To earn it you must submit at least one fully fleshed out custom faction: This includes artwork and text edit. Bonus points if it has storyline/background.

I think a faction modder badge is a very good idea, but how do you symbolize that in a 20x .png image?  I'd have made the badge 1.6 years ago if I had an idea...
Title: Re: Awards for content contributors
Post by: JarlWolf on September 07, 2013, 11:11:31 PM
Simple: Just have a badge with a hammer+paintbrush, or simple a hammer, hammer/paintbrush represents that you made a faction.

Could merely just do a badge with F or CF on it as well.

Or, even have like a miniature flag with CF on it.

It'll need transparency set on it, but that's what I came up with. Shameless homage to one of my factions, but hey, thats just creative input.

We need to create badges for other kinds of modding - Kil already has one for Lost Eden, so I think that's the model for TCMs.  We need to make a SMAniac badge for Maniac, and will need one when Geo releases a beta of his Tau Ceti.  Stuff like that.  Of course there's a usergroup for .exe Modders now, and there have been two attempts to make a fitting badge - is that rendered sufficiently moot by the usergroup, or do they get a badge, too?  Lots remains to be worked out...

For .Exe modders, why not just an oldschool computer with green text stating .EXE?

Could look cool. I'm going to sleep soon but I could whip something up when I wake up...

With the icons, I meant those shown in the UI and tech web (http://well-of-souls.com/civ/images/tech_web4.jpg).
The worker icon itself is the first one in the Habitation tech.

(Please note that you'll be wearing it from now on! ;))

I made a couple variations:

In the first one, the center paintbrush is a little too thin to be seen well on the tiny blank smilie. (edit: I was looking at it on a black background, and the lack of a tip made it appear almost gone.)
Also, the second one is indexed. It's hard drawing at 20x20, and way easier with little emotions.
