Title: Self portraits
Post by: Buster's Uncle on October 01, 2012, 03:46:42 PM
So, my avatar looks a good bit like my dad - that inspired me to try altering it to look like me.

The attachment is much improved from the version I posted in Council Room; that one looks as much like my brother, provided the good Reverend assumed a hippy look.  It needed the nose lengthened.  This is actually a pretty good likeness.

So, would anyone else like to post a self portrait?  Altering something else, like I did, is fine for those who can't draw very well, like me. Kil, make sure yours is human, and wearing pants, if only out of frame.

...So then I just had to do Buster's Daddy - not quite as good a likeness, but that's him, all right.

I had to email my family with some attachments...

I do.  Why do you ask?

-And for purposes of proving that I got a decent likeness, here's me, trying to imitate the pose and not getting the lighting very close.  I did nothing to this but crop it the same way.

Buster's Daddy says the resemblance to Horton Heath must be genetic, though we have no known people in Texas on that side of the family.

I see I need to trim my fur.

...And the oddest part is that I chose this avatar not because of any resemblance to my dad or me, but because Manuel is a deeply troubled man of who I'm very fond since I wrote about him, and because to an artist's eye, the visceral emotion of the shot, and even his wrinkles, are beautiful, and I'm proud of my work...

Haha I have plenty of photos, do you want a photo of me then?

That would be slighty a separate topic - the world demands an artistic rendering of Tristan -not the pokemon.

I was thinking a double self portait sometime, of like the two different mes back to back, but yeah, I can't say I have actually drawn me for years. :O

Is that a processed photo?  Nice.

And do I see a long mustache?  I just knew you had a thick mustache (your handle screams it, somehow), and feel very gratified now. :)

I've had a mustache for many years. I've always had some form of mustache for at least 30 or so years.
I'd feel incomplete without one, it'd be sort of like removing one's dignity if my mustache left me.

Hey, you saw that I'm a hippy; I don't get to judge.

Any proper man will tell you he has been in a marriage lasting over 25 years. Me? I've been happily married for 53 odd years. Me and my mustache were married back when I enlisted, back in 58.

Aha well the thing I mentioned properly wouldn't happen for months, sorry BU.

Still, I used to have a beard when I was younger. :O

that's actually a great resemblance with the photo (you). Kudos :)

I wish I could post mine but there is a couple of reasons why I can't. Although I use the same avatar at every single place (other than here) and the hands in my avatar here do resemble my own hands  :D

2010.  At the time I thought it was the most extreme mask I'd ever built myself, what with wearing masks causing panic attacks as I think I'm suffocating.  Turned out to be most comfortable.

Last years, now...there were several times I had to push away the panic.

I remember that one.  Burlap with some binding medium painted on, over a cast of your head?

Post by: Unorthodox on August 08, 2013, 02:25:23 PM
Burlap and latex, yep.  Couldn't find a pic of just the cast of the head.  It's a horrible cast, but serviceable for a 'blank' to make masks.

It would be rude for me to guess "glasses, hairline, grey" wouldn't it?

-Also, gwillybj's illegitimate father...
