Title: I'd like a mod badge
Post by: bvanevery on May 17, 2018, 03:24:49 PM
I've shipped a mod, so I'd like a mod badge!  I assume there already is one?

Thanks for the badge!  Was that already available?

It was.  You're only the second person to get that one, though I finally remembered to as Mercantile Interest, too, while I was assigning it.

Fascinating.  I have seen many "text" mods in the archives (I think of those as just mods, with .exe mod being the category that needs special distinction), so I would have expected modders with such badges all over the place.  Maybe the modders didn't historicaly care about badges, or didn't think to ask.  Is MercantileInterest a "contemporary" recipient, say in the last few years, or did he get his many years ago?

Or is it a distinction between text and art asset mods?

He put his thing up over a year ago.  There's a badge for .exe modders, and one for art modders, and I dunno - I don't have any real system on this, just came up with this and that as asked, and award when I remember to.

I don't fault the evolution of a taxonomy.  It does make me think that there's some adventure game answer, where if you combine all 3, you get a super mega modder badge.  Holding the key to saving or destroying the universe, of course.

Well, you've certainly got the skillset to do all three if you choose - and to make a badge to go with it.  I'd certainly cooperate.

I think the only art asset I currently care about, is whether I can duplicate existing 3d units and thereby add new Chassis types to the game.  But I don't yet know if this requires .exe modding to pull off.  I've asked a Question about it in bugs / patches.
