Title: Is there a way to make a heavy ground transport.
Post by: vonbach on November 16, 2017, 02:35:03 AM
Just what it says I'm looking to make a heavy ground transport for infantry that can carry more than one unit.
Is this possible?

Yes, but before designing it, how prevalent and versatile do you want such a design to be?

As a one-off unit, or must every possible land transport have the possibility to carry more then one unit?

This pretty much.
I'm looking for a unit that can carry about four units or so and be as fast as a rover. Basically I'm looking for a way to get infantry to the fight faster.

I'll cobble something together. I'll be back in half an hour with some instructions.

For starters, make a copy of your alpha -or alphax.txt file (whether you want to mod the base game or the expansion), and rename it to original_alpha.txt or original_alphax.txt or something.

Open up your alphax.txt file, and do a search for:

#CHASSIS

The 9 lines below that define all the unit classes in the game.
Replace the first three with the code below.

Code: [Select]
Infantry,M1,  Squad,M1,      Sentinels,M2,   Garrison,M1,  1, 0, 0, 0, 4, 1, None,     Shock Troops,M2,   Elite Guard,M1,
Speeder,M1,   Rover,M1,      Defensive,M1,   Skirmisher,M1,2, 0, 0, 0, 4, 2, Mobile,   Dragon,M1,         Enforcer,M1,
Hovertank,M1, Tank,M1,       Skimmer,M1,     Evasive,M1,   3, 0, 0, 0, 4, 3, NanoMin,  Behemoth,M1,       Guardian,M1,

Save your file, and start playing/testing. :)

Basically, it gives every land transport unit the possibility to carry 4 units with whatever reactor they carry. Keep in mind that your rover transports will also only have 1 movement point due to the movement decrease of having the transport pod on it.

With modding other options could be used too, just some ideas, I tried some of them in other applications:
- enabling heavy ability, I don't remember how it was working with 1 cargo, but for example 2 should increase to 3 (50%)
- grav struts, but they give antigrav-kinda ability, not really only additional move point.
- with Elite morale even infantry chassis transport has 2 move points. Making armour prototype as transport helps with its +1 morale. Spartans get that also easier. In pre-defined unit one can add morale upgrade ability. Pre-defines may have any number of abilities.
