Title: Got forest when terraforming into farm
Post by: deadgrunt on June 10, 2017, 11:34:52 PM
I was terraforming using "f" shortcut to make a farm, but got forest instead. And I have no plant forest technology...

Any ideas? (after this forest popped up, another former also terraformed into forest)

You researched Centauri Ecology which gave you Formers. You got a whole list of terraforming options, too. You can see all of these in alphax.txt under "; TERRAFORMING IMPROVEMENTS" where they have "None" as their prerequisite. This is so if you get a free Former at the start of the game, you have something to do with it.

Cultivate Farm {f}
Construct Mine {m}
Construct Solar Collector {s}
Plant Forest {shift+f}
Build Road {r}
Construct Sensor Array {o}
Remove Fungus {f}
Level Terrain {_}

In your "forest.jpg" the Former two spaces to the north-west of Free Drone Central has an upper-case "F" in its flag, which indicates it was given the "Plant Forest" order {shift+f}. Is that the one you saw after the first? If you're sure you didn't press {shift+f}, check to see that your CapsLock isn't on.

Check your Caps Lock. ;)

No, seriously.

yes, that most probably the case :)

I need to pay close attention if I am building farm "f" that actually looks like "1" lol, or building forest "F"

thankfully all 4x strategies after AC understood that "shift" and "caps" are bad

P.S. even with all interface issues the game is much better and "fullier" that CivBE, that I used to playing before

Caps Lock isn't the problem.  How fast you actually typed SHIFT+f is the problem.  It happens to me at least once every game.  You think you typed SHIFT+f, but your keyboard actually delivered f to the computer's brain.  Gaming keyboards have a concept of "key ghosting", something about when you get typing faster than the keyboard responds.  Gaming keyboards say they do things to prevent this.  I am not using a gaming keyboard, just an ordinary laptop.  So my defense, is to press SHIFT slowly, methodically, first and foremost, before pressing f.  Because otherwise it might become f and I will lose a turn on that.
