Title: Yitzi's Patch Crashing Game
Post by: MilesBeyond on October 24, 2016, 02:38:37 PM
So when I install SMAX, everything works perfectly. However, when I install Yitzi's patch overtop of it, I get the faction select bug (i.e. the game hangs when I get to the faction selection screen, but otherwise works fine if I can bypass this screen, through Quickstart or scenario or whatever). Anyone know what could be causing this? I'm running Yitzi's latest patch (3.5). I'm using the GOG version of SMAX, if that makes a difference, and I'm on Windows 8.1

Are you using the alphax.txt from the 3.0 version?  I believe it has to have that to work...

Hmm, not that I know of. Does that mean I need to download Yitzi's 3.0 and use the alphax.txt from that rather than the 3.5 patch?

If there was an alpha.txt included with 3.5, use that.  -Otherwise, 3.0, yes.

Yeah, unfortunately 3.5 comes with an alphax.txt, so it looks like that's not the issue.

Well, I couldn't find a solution, but I did discover that this crash didn't happen if I used 3.4 instead. Looks like whatever the issue is, it's specific to 3.5, as both vanilla and apparently 3.4 don't have it. I miss out on 3.5's bug fixes but I'll survive.

Using the alphax.txt from another version only applies to ignoring the letter (so for 3.5b you'd use the text files from 3.5), not to the number after the decimal point.

I wasn't able to get this to happen, so I can't really find out what's going on in order to fix it (though if you want, I can PM you some instructions as to how to get some information from your bug that might help me figure out what's going on).

By the way, a game saved in 3.4 can be loaded in 3.5 with no problems (and that avoids the faction selection screen), so you don't even have to miss out on the bug fixes if you don't mind switching back and forth (though there are new faction modding options in 3.5 and you'll have issues using any factions based on that).
