Title: IoD disappears leaving spore launcher behind
Post by: Nim on August 20, 2016, 07:15:46 PM
SMAX, Yitzi 3.4.
Spore launcher on an IoD was bombarding me and then the IoD just disappeared and left the launcher hovering over the ocean. Could someone else see if it happens to them to when they end turn on my save ? Thanks.

Maybe it's a 63m tall spore launcher :D

But seriously, I've never seen that before. If I have a chance I'll take a look. Won't be right away though.
In the meantime, what version are you running? GOG, original disk, something else? PC or Mac? Any patches?

Spore launchers on IoDs disappearing is pretty normal but yeah, this is something else. If I attack it with a foil afterwards I get combat odds, so it doesn't really seem to count as artillery. Weird.

Now that I think about it, I vaguely recall Yitzi saying that he'd done something to adjust the AI's tendency to camp IoD+Launcher combos just outside a player's base, which can cause utter destruction early in the game before the player gets Mobility. If I am remembering correctly, this could be an unintended side effect of that adjustment.

Did the IoD also unload some mind worms first? I'm wondering if the game mis-counted the number of units on the IoD before it was removed from the game. That would also explain why the Launcher is acting like a combat unit (the game might see it as a mindworm).

Good question. Unfortunately this was a week or two ago so no idea really. Only saves left from that game are 2137 and 38.

On an unrelated note I managed to capture a mindworm on a fungal tower who then could ignore that towers ZoC :danc:

It could leave the ZOC and come back and still ignore?

-I've occasionally captured a fungal tower, BTW, when capturing a worm on its square; they always revert back to Planet control next turn. That's surely a bug...

Yup, I actually just managed to recreate it but it seems it fixes itself (possibly upon loading ?) Couldn't do it again from the autosave.

Edit: Def loading that fixes it. If you don't load ZoC stays ignored.
